David Fincher’s anticipated screen adaptation of “Gone Girl” is set to be released on Oct. 3, 2014, according to Fox.
The early October slot will give the film, which is currently in production, the possibility of an awards season push. Based on Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel, the thriller stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon.
The 20th Century Fox pic about a woman who disappears on her fifth anniversary will face off against Gary Shore’s vampire movie “Dracula Untold” opening on the same date. It’s the same weekend on which Fincher’s “The Social Network” opened in 2010.
And how about GWTDT sequel, The Girl who played with fire, no news on that one at all? Or is it true that he’s not coming back in the director’s chair?
When I read the novel I had Jake Gyllenhaal’s face so firmly fixed in my mind as the main part I couldn’t believe they’d picked Ben Affleck to do it. …and of course his real sister Maggie would play the fictional sister role. Funny how your imagination plays tricks like that. I’m sure Ben Affleck will do a splendid job, but it was a real oh noooo moment for me.
