myki is used for travel to and from V/Line stations located between Melbourne and Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and Seymour.

At the start of each journey you must touch on your card at the myki reader and you must touch off at the end to be charged the correct fare.
How much does a myki card cost?
A full fare myki card costs $6 and a concession, seniors or child myki costs $3.
Purchasing pre-loaded myki cards on board and at staffed long distance stations
Pre-loaded myki cards are available from some staffed V/Line stations outside the myki boundary and V/Line conductors for customers who board services at unstaffed stations.
Full fare pre-loaded myki cards cost $30 and include $24 worth of pre-loaded travel.
Customers with valid concession cards can purchase a pre-loaded myki for $15 which includes $12 worth of pre-loaded travel.
Families travelling within the myki network may consider purchasing a
family traveller ticket.

V/Line paper tickets must be used on long distance services to Bairnsdale, Albury, Shepparton, Echuca, Swan Hill, Ararat, Maryborough and Warrnambool.

The full fare is payable by any customer who is aged 19 years and over and does not hold a concession card valid for travel in Victoria.
Children aged from four to 18 years are entitled to concession fares. Children under four travel for free.
From 30 January 2017, children aged from five to 18 years will be entitled to concession fares and children under five will travel free.
Students and adults who hold concession cards valid for travel in Victoria are eligible for concession fares.

We recommend travelling at off-peak times if you can. Services are quieter so you're more likely to get a seat and it's cheaper too.
Peak services
Peak services are all services where you touch off in Melbourne* before 9am weekdays or where you touch on in Melbourne* between 4pm and 6pm weekdays.
*Melbourne is defined as Flinders St, Southern Cross, North Melbourne and Richmond stations.
Tickets valid for travel on peak services include the Peak Single and Peak Day Return and myki money or myki pass.
Off-peak services
All other services including public holidays and weekends are defined as off-peak.
From 1 January 2016 concession customers now receive off-peak fares when travelling on non-myki weekend services.
Traditionally, off-peak services are quieter and you are more likely to secure a seat.
Tickets valid for travel on off-peak services include Off-Peak Single, Off-Peak Day Return and myki money or myki pass.
If you have an off-peak paper ticket and need to travel on a peak service, please purchase a peak upgrade ticket before travelling.
Metropolitan Melbourne
Customers who have a valid myki or V/Line paper ticket can travel free on Melbourne's metropolitan trains, trams and buses.
If you've travelled on a V/Line long distance train or coach with a paper ticket, your one way single ticket includes one hour of free travel either side of your V/Line journey. All other ticket types, including Day Return, include free travel all day.
Regional town buses
You can use your myki or V/Line paper ticket to travel on some local town buses, excluding privately operated services. Town bus travel is included if you travel to or from one of these stations:
- Geelong
- South Geelong
- Marshall
- Waurn Ponds
- Ballarat
- Kangaroo Flat
- Bendigo
- Eaglehawk
- Epsom
- Wallan
- Kilmore East
- Seymour
- Traralgon
- Moe
- Morwell
You must have your myki or V/Line paper ticket with you when you board the bus. Present your ticket to the bus driver who will check it. V/Line paper tickets or mykis are not available from bus drivers.
First Class is only available on some reserved services to and from Albury, Bairnsdale, Shepparton, Swan Hill and Warrnambool.
First Class carriages have meal trays and larger reclining seats with more leg room.
The seats are sectioned in fours and there are approximately 52 seats in each carriage, compared to 88 in economy.
All other services, including V/Line coaches, have Economy Class only.
If you are travelling on a myki and wish to travel First Class on a long distance service, you can purchase an upgrade ticket.
First Class upgrades can be purchased from staffed V/Line stations before travelling - your myki cannot be used to pay for the upgrade.
You should touch on and off your myki as normal even when travelling with a First Class upgrade.
Reservations are compulsory on all services to or from Albury, Bairnsdale, Shepparton, Swan Hill and Warrnambool.
Reserved services are shaded in timetables and are indicated in the Journey Planner.
Reservations are not needed on trains to or from all other destinations including Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon.
The Family Traveller ticket is an affordable way for families to travel in Victoria using V/Line.
A Family Traveller ticket allows each adult to take up to two children aged between four and 16 for free.
Eligibility
Family Traveller tickets are available for travel to/from all V/Line locations except for travel wholly within Zone 2 or Zone 1 and 2.
Family Traveller tickets can be used by adults travelling with children older than four and under 17.
Children under four years old travel free but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The adult may travel on a concession ticket if they are entitled to. The Family Traveller is not available if the adult is using a free pass, privilege ticket, periodical ticket or free travel voucher.
All customers using the Family Traveller ticket must travel together at all times. If there are more than two children travelling with each adult, additional children will pay the standard child fare.
Family Traveller tickets are only available in paper form and are not available with myki.
The Family Traveller is not valid for the Mansfield to Mount Buller V/Line coach service.
These tickets can be purchased at staffed V/Line stations or by calling 1800 800 007 (6am-midnight).
Group discounts are available on V/Line trains and coaches subject to space.
Group travel bookings, including return journeys, must be made for:
- 12 or more customers travelling together on V/Line coach services
- 20 or more customers travelling together on V/Line train services.
Group travel is charged at concession fares. This is approximately 50 per cent cheaper than the standard weekday adult fares and approximately 30 per cent cheaper on weekends.
