Something stirs in the evershifting bowels of the void.

[IMG] Rise and shine, doctor Tokaj. Rise and... shine. Not that I... wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job.

    [IMG] What madness is this?

    [IMG] Madness...

[IMG] ... madness. I slowly start to remember... Yes.

    [IMG] The confinement syndrome.

[IMG] Everyone in the shelter gone mad.

    [IMG] The mutants.

    [IMG] The puzzles...

    [IMG] Everyone being against me.

[IMG] And yet with all my psychiatrist powers and training.

    [IMG] I just...

    [IMG] Couldn't help them.

[IMG] And then everything went black. But now I hear the call again. There are more people out there suffering from mental illnesses, and the burden of releasing them from their pain is mine alone. Their sickness has but one cure... and I shall deliver it.

[IMG] Wake up, doctor Tokaj. Wake up... and smell the ashes.

[IMG] My mission would start here, in this desolate world.

[IMG] Naturally, I had to hide my true face from those who might recognise me. The outside world still was unfriendly to shelter dwellers. I thus took on the monicker of... the Reaper. Clad from head to toe in leathers and scarves, no one would recognise me.

[IMG] Albert Tokaj was born anew.

[IMG] In my travels I met a peculiar wisewoman. She was a very good conversation partner. I began to relate to her what happened during my latest crusade...

[IMG] Now there's a view you don't see often. I know who you are... These are not the things you should be after. What are you really doing here?

[IMG] I was hunting a mutant, a really slippery one.

[IMG] Two sentences and they already sound like an excuse. You obviously didn't find him. So what are you doing here?

    [IMG] It's a long story...

    [IMG] Do tell.

[IMG] The mutant slipped away, it was not worth it. I decided to return home.

[IMG] A few days after I returned, a group of mutants appeared. Looked like vacation was over...

[IMG] My new surroundings were strange. It was like the world was devoid of all colours. I assumed it was just another symptom of the confinement syndrom that was plaguing the world from within. It also horrified me to notice that I cast no shadow upon the ground...

[IMG] I quickly reminded myself of my goal and belongings.

[IMG] But the notes in my journal looked like the ramblings of a madman. It was definitely not my journal. What was going on here?

[IMG] I decided to further explore this strange settlement before I carried on.

[IMG] Among the locals, I encountered Arek Florkowski, the old engineer from Glory. He must have found his way out even though I thought he was a goner. Good that I had all the clothing, he didn't recognise me.

[IMG] After stumbling on a dumpster in the middle of a wrecked bus, I decided there was nothing more to look for here.

[IMG] A gate to the outside world... but not the one I was looking for.

[IMG] Even the Republic Guards from Glory made it out! How was that possible?! I also recognised this man. He had bad temper problems and I had to... put him down in my... previous life.

[IMG] It was a carnage out there. I immediately noticed the claw and bite marks and knew what was in my future...

[IMG] Holy shit! *starts shooting blindly*

[IMG] They were of course no match for my superior equipment.

[IMG] I could barely see anything through the grim darkness of this new world. But I knew my enemy well.

[IMG] I felt like pushing a button to drain the mutants' energy, but try as I may, it was not possible. I had to shoot them down the old way.

[IMG] Even concealed by these shadows, it was impossible not to recognise those mutants. They were the same mutated hussars that I battled all those years ago underground in Glory... What were they doing here?

[IMG] I tried to sneak up on a whole group of these monstrosities to psychoanalyse them and at least try to make sense of the situation, but alas. The beasts detected me when I got close. I had to put them down. My duty here was done. More afflicted people delivered from their sickness.

[IMG] But it was not enough to just cover myself in concealing clothing. I also had to mask my high intelligence and education by speaking like an illiterate.

[IMG] Product placement... it never goes away.

[IMG] No one fucks with Albert "Reaper" Tokaj.

[IMG] I had no more to say to this pathetic old man. I knew the time of his therapy would come one day as well...

[IMG] Tytus? So Arek was hiding as well, eh... Maybe he recognised me after all, but didn't want to blow his cover.

[IMG] Simple. To the point. Thinly veiled cynical humour. These were the chief weapons at my disposal.

[IMG] I figured offence was the best defence. It is therefore through the improvement of our flak cannon that we earn our advanced medical treatment.

[IMG] I decided to add the profile of "Tytus" to my journal. The old man had answers to my questions for sure... but they had to wait.

    [IMG] For right now...

[IMG] I had to find out what happened to Kola and his men.

Hm, there's a way to change the relevant .ini files to get rid of the black and white bullshit.

    Should I do it, y/n?

I already got the pix for the next update, though, so that one will still be b&w regardless of the kommon konsensus.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the black and white bullshit. It feels like I'm having flash bangs detonating in my face as I scroll down.

Mang, weekend started and you ask for impossibles.
I made post here, does it count?

Or it's slow cause people having difficulties to see what's going on on the screenshots due filters and artstyle with such visibility or whatever.

Waiting for more. For the glory of the Chwała.

[IMG] My journey took me to the outer rim mining outpost. I had to find Pepsi and make sure he was okay...

[IMG] Sounds like you and Stragov were pretty close...

[IMG] He took us in, the three of us. Gave us food, shelter. Trained us to become rangers, just like he was.

    [IMG] Three?

[IMG] My brother and sister. When I left, they stayed. They've always been more careful than me.

[IMG] My brother and sister... distant shades of the past...

[IMG] Wait, I had a brother and sister? Nevertheless, I decided to update my journal with some new information.

[IMG] Kola "Pepsi" Puszkinov. Puszkinov, the "canman". It always felt like an idiotic name and callsign to me. A textbook front for a violent psychological disorder.

[IMG] Albert Tokaj would perhaps feel sadness about this. But the Reaper feels nothing.

[IMG] I was immediately attacked by more mutated hussars.

[IMG] I put down two of the beasts while the third one decided to turn around and stand still for a mysterious reason. It gave me enough time to teabag drain the mutant of its precious life fluids. I needed them more than it. And anyway, what's the worst that could happen from transferring that juicy mutant geneseed right into my bloodstream?

[IMG] One ugly motherfucker. Should never turn your back on a stranger with a gun and a blood transferring-shotgun-shield device.

    [IMG] More derelict heavy machinery.

[IMG] More corpses for the meatgrinder.

[IMG] This mineshaft was clearly significant. I had no reason to step inside at the moment, but deep down I knew that, in time, I would.

[IMG] It was hard to discern features in this grim darkness, but I felt this scaffolding was my goal.

[IMG] And I was not mistaken. Mutated guards with pistols, just like the ones I met in shelter Glory. I killed them once and I would do it again. I would Fucking Kill every mentally unstable mutant scum in my way.

[IMG] It seemed that literally the entire world was up on its head. Even the writing on the wall looked mirrored.

[IMG] The men looked fine. I wondered why they couldn't kill the two or three mutants in front of them by themselves and had to wait for me to do the job. I decided to speak to Kola.

[IMG] Puszkinow kept speaking out in those long monologues, but at some points he'd just stop in the middle of a sentence. How bizarre.

[IMG] Kola knew of my mission. Perhaps everyone did. I needed to hunt Red Eye down for the injustice he did to me and my kin. I felt like... reminiscencing on the past...

[IMG] It's the slippery one you've mentioned before, the unfinished story? It's this Red Eye, am I right? You said you've been hunting him for a while. Your profession isn't exactly a popular career choice. Tell me how it all began.

[IMG] I don't dwell on the past.

    [IMG] Joy. Friendship. Tears...

[IMG] I've been hunting him for years, yes.

[IMG] But it's a job like any other.

[IMG] Nothing personal. There are some things you just can't let rest.

[IMG] Have it as you wish then, but don't expect me to stop asking questions.

    [IMG] What happened later?

    [IMG] I returned home. Again.

[IMG] But before reporting back to Stragov I decided to explore my surroundings.

[IMG] My path led me to another derelict outpost.

[IMG] Full of mutants, of course. But it also had a few ammo caches.

[IMG] And a mysterious gate to... someplace else.

[IMG] The lake outside the mining area.

[IMG] I checked my notes to get a better view of my surroundings.

[IMG] And then I stumbled upon some mutated wild life. Tough bastards, but they die like everything else when faced with the ripper and the mighty foot.

[IMG] Moving on. A shelter-pattern door. Its secrets would however stay locked, as I had no means of opening it. If only I still had my old hacking tool...

[IMG] And then I found more familiar faces...

[IMG] It was the hobo cannibal leader from the City of Shadows. His madness escaped me once... he would not manage to do that again.

[IMG] Nobody fucks with Albert "Reaper" Tokaj!

[IMG] Putting a bullet through both their heads was immensely satisfying. Stress relief through violence.

[IMG] However, the remaining cannibals kept trying to pop my moles from afar. I had to advance tactically with my ripper's shield module engaged.

[IMG] They were no match for me. And now not only their lifeforce was mine, but also their rifles... these would come in handy.

[IMG] I kept going forward through the hordes of the looters and cannibals... soon I was overwhelmed...

[IMG] and then suddenly a flash of bright light

[IMG] And I was back to where I started?! No matter. I shall return to exact terrible vengeance upon them later.

[IMG] Exploring more countyside around the lake, I found more mutants.

[IMG] The lake was of course toxic. A short dip was enough to sear the skin off my legs. A bit further down the road I found another gateway leading to a different area, but I decided to come back there later. Now it was time to report back to Stragov.

[IMG] But on my way back, I found a battery that I could fit in my ripper. It improved my shield module.

[IMG] There was also something strange about this wall... as if I could step right inside...

    [IMG] SUP BOYZ

[IMG] MIND IF I JOIN YA? DIDN'T HAVE ANY GOOD BOOZE IN A WHILE NOW.

    ...

    ...

[IMG] Weird. I felt like I was in a different place just a second ago, but now I was standing in the Ranger HQ again... Perhaps just a twist in my sobriety. It was time to report to Stragov.

Wow, this shit might look even worse in colour than B&W :hmmm:

Which is more shit and why? DISCUSS!!!!

Unless there are some further ways of lightening up the game in the .ini file, but I have no idea.

It seems that with color mode active you've disabled all shaders. B&W has some bloom and depth of field. Also, seriously - where are shadows?

Setting Depth of Field off in the .ini disables the black and white mode, I didn't disable anything else. The only thing I also switched off were various fogs because the above screen is nevertheless the effect of my advanced fiddling with the file 'cuz if you only disable dof, the fucking thing just has this super-fog over the screen that makes it look even worse than above.

I also tried dicking around with shaders and bloom in the in-game options menu, but they didn't seem to do anything. Like, literally anything.

I'll try to fiddle some more with the .ini file today and see where it gets me.

    Wow this is fucking retarded.

The "best" I could get the game to look is this:

    Show Spoiler

And it still looks really fucking terrible.

I went apeshit on both the options menu and the settings.ini file disabling and enabling shit at random that looked like it would be relevant, and absolutely nothing improved. The only two things that actually do shit are 'depth of field' (which enables/disables the black and white shader) and 'fogvolume'.

Fogvolume is a funny thing because it looks like it either enables some of the bw shaders, or introduces some new filter. With colour and fog on, the game looks like you're stuck in downtown Cracow:

    Show Spoiler

Meanwhile with fog off and dof on, it looks like this:

    Show Spoiler

This is some really weird shit, especially because, like I said, it looks like nothing does anything to the game's looks no matter what you edit and switch off/on, except the fogvolume and dof. It feels like there's some retardo corelation between dof and the game's shaders and lighting, where all shaders and lights get turned off the moment you turn off dof, leaving the game just brown and dark with no contrast whatsoever. Not even bloom works with dof off.

Tbh, I dunno how to proceed now, because I think the """"colour""""" version looks even worse than B&W.

Oh, and don't expect a colour switch appearing in the options menu in the future, too. Dev post on steam forums:

Huehuehuaheuahe. So it took them one patch to fuck the colours up from normal to black and white, but now it would suddenly mean "redoing the whole game" to get this shit back in shape? What a crock of bollocks.

"Why do you hate our precious lack of color! It fits with the game's grim setting! And games are art!!" :retarded:

Well, you tried. Carry on with b&w filter if you can't find a solution, comrade.

[IMG] Nevertheless, I needed more firepower before I went off to continue my police action.

[IMG] The shrapnel cannon needs no ammunition, does huge damage and has a huge spread. A handy thing to upgrade. After talking to Arek Tytus, I decided to take a stroll around the outpost.

[IMG] In one of the alleys I felt someone's presence... I could tell his name was Kaspar, but I couldn't see nor talk to him. How perplexing.

[IMG] Once more unto the breach.

[IMG] There we go, hussar style again. I wish I had the ripper back in Glory...

    [IMG] I DEMAND ANSWERS, PUSZKOV

[IMG] Not so tough now, are you, punk.

[IMG] Who, or what, the hell are those Irivdiali? It was as if the world kept assaulting me with information I was assumed to know... but these were things Reaper would know, not Albert Tokaj.

[IMG] Why would he mention this again, all of a sudden?

[IMG] It sounded like a good deal. More subjects for my research, more battle scars for my skin and more upgrades for my gizmo.

[IMG] These coordinates Kola mentioned? It was me. Someone had to find out what happened in the Gyula Creek.

[IMG] And you never expected that I'd be the one to show up. You're one lucky girl.

    [IMG] *Sigh*

    [IMG] ... girl? :hmmm:

[IMG] I ran off to the mines, but got assaulted again by the mutants. How could they get here again so fast? It was like they were appearing out of thin air.

    [IMG] Down into the fire.

[IMG] Finally some dark dungeons. I decided to check my notes before proceeding.

[IMG] Mutants with heavy guns? I guess one could call them... supermutants.

[IMG] At least now I wasn't going in blind anymore. The spirits inside the machine had to be silenced for the world to prosper again.

[IMG] The bandits looked like cannibals. But still, I decided to get closer... maybe they were peaceful?

[IMG] Yeah, right. Lunatics, the lot of them. And lunacy could only be cured with lead

[IMG] The mine was crawling with bandits. Fortunately, my shield module allowed me to employ a tacticool advance, hiding behind my shield while taking potshots at the enemy. I called this tactic "popamole".

[IMG] The Aktyn rifle. I remembered it from Glory. Useful gadget, but its stopping power is terrible.

    [IMG] I see dead people.

[IMG] These assholes had no idea who they were dealing with.

[IMG] The last pocket of resistance almost managed to get me. Almost, but not quite.

[IMG] They were guarding some ancient generator, but I was unable to interact with it. Still, I felt that my work here was done. It was time to report back to Kola.

[IMG] But then I found another of those shelter-pattern doors... And I could open it.

    [IMG] An elevator?

    [IMG] Uhm...

    [IMG] For fuck's sake.

[IMG] The cannibals once again wanted a piece of me. And there was a whole horde of them advancing, my shield module was running out faster than I could pop them... And then...!

[IMG] And then I realised that I'd rot here without even having published a paper on the confinement syndrome. Just my luck.

    ...

    [IMG] Albert... Awaken, warrior...

    ...

[IMG] The time of your death is not yet at hand.

[IMG] I could feel life coursing again through my veins. I knew what had to be done.

[IMG] I was a man on a mission. I was sent by the All-Father.

[IMG] And I would send all these creeps straight to Hel.

[IMG] They just kept coming and coming, I eventually ran out of ammo for my heavy pistol and had to switch to the Grendel carried by the villains. Powerful gun to be sure, but its rate of fire is terrible. Nevertheless, I finally felt the numbers of enemies dwindle. I decided to take a quick stroll through their village to kill off stragglers.

[IMG] And then I found in myself some uncanny levitation powers. Good. This vantage point would prove useful.

[IMG] A totem made of gore. Disgusting cannibals.

[IMG] I then stood right in front of the hobo king. I wanted to ease his pain, but all my bullets just kept going through him and his thug. They must have been holograms of some sort.

[IMG] It was time to ditch this place.

[IMG] But on my way back I found the shelter door again. And this time I could open it...

[IMG] It led me to the Irivdiali tunnels. I made a mental note to return there later.

[IMG] First I needed my reward.

[IMG] My latest experience at the mine and the cannibal HQ have made it apparent that I needed to upgrade the shield module on the double. It was enough to withstand the shots of 2 or 3 attackers if my bullets struck true, but a neverending tide of assholes would quickly punch through it.

[IMG] For some reason, Tytus gave me two upgrades for the price of one. Not that I was complaining.

[IMG] My quest would be continued...

A descent into madness indeed. Who will get there first, Albert Tokaj, The Reaper, or Darth Roxor?
