EU funding for clinical trials of a placental malaria vaccine
Placental Malaria Vaccine (PlacMalVac)
PlacMalVac - is a project coordinated by the University of Copenhagen and funded by an FP7 EU grant, which will enable the first clinical trial of a VAR2CSA based vaccine to target malaria parasites infecting pregnant women.
The project is a continuation of a Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation Grant to prepare for cGMP production of the vaccine between University of Copenhagen, ExpreS2ion Biotechnologiesand CMC biologics. The cGMP production furthermore received funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in collaboration with European Vaccine Initiative
The international consortium is coordinated by Associate Professor Morten Agertoug Nielsen at University of Copenhagen and it includes the Centre for Medical Parasitology (CMP) from University of Copenhagen (Denmark), ExpreS2ion Biotechnologies (Denmark), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (France), European Vaccine Initiative (EVI, Germany), Université d'Abomey-Calavi (Benin), & University of Tübingen (Germany).
