Not only will skating look much more natural, players will also experience the true momentum of skating whenever players dig into the ice to accelerate or carve the ice to make sudden stops. In addition to the numerous new skating animations, several new checking, passing, and shooting animations have been added, making all the action in NHL 2K7 flow with amazing detail. New gameplay enhancements have been added to Pro Control, giving users offensive and defensive tools to utilize on the ice. While on offense, players now have the ability to execute drop passes, allowing users to setup new screen plays and create new scoring opportunities to catch the goalie off-guard. Pressure Control brings a tactical element to defensive hockey as players now can instruct teammates to defend opposing players while on the ice. Varying degrees of pressure can be selected - whether it's telling your teammate to shadow a selected opponent or deliver a big check - allowing players new defensive options on the fly. Pro Control in NHL 2K7 delivers the offensive and defensive options hockey fans have been asking for, truly delivering the next generation of hockey. [2K Sports] Expand

NHL 2K7 on higher difficulties is a solid simulation and, with all the modes, teams and options, is the most complete hockey title on the PS2.

Graphically, this year's offering is a big step forward over last year's. However, it still has a way to go.
  3. While the Pressure Control and drop pass are nice additions to the control scheme, they aren’t as innovative as last year’s Pro Control passing or even Crease Control. The new skating engine adds more precision in terms of player movement on the ice, but it doesn’t negate the overwhelming use of one-timers to score goals.

Good, but hardly startling stuff. [Issue#146, p.95]
  5. The lack of changes will disappoint some, but for 20 bucks the minor tweaks and new roster nicely enhance what was already a great game.

Another pretty decent ice hockey simulation. [Christmas 2006, p.99]

But for this season, pay the extra bucks and go with EA's NHL 07 instead. [Nov. 2006, p.110]

Personally, I prefer EA Sports NHL07. And just like in NHL07, the music is very invasive and got on my nerves really quickly. The controls are slow to react and I found the AI to be laughable in terms of tactics. Players move around like zombies and ignore the puck which is at their feet. I'm glad I picked it up for only 20$ as had I paid more I would have been vary angry. Expand
