Multilingual film-maker Ram Gopal Varma is all set to release his next ambitious project Killing Veerappan on November 13 to mark the 15th anniversary of the release of Kannada matinee idol and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, the late Dr. Rajkumar, who was held captive by the forest brigand.

Killing Veerappan explores the circumstances that led to the death of the notorious brigand at the hands of the police after tormenting Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for over four decades through crimes, such as, high profile abductions, ivory trade and sandalwood smuggling. RGV is expected to showcase the real story and the people responsible for his killing.

Veerappan had abducted Dr. Rajkumar, the greatest film star of the Kannada film industry, on July 30 of 2000 and released him on November 15, 2000, after holding him hostage for 108 days. The kidnapping episode is considered as one of the biggest crises in the history of Karnataka, as Dr. Rajkumar was revered by one and all. The then Chief Minister S M Krishna had a tough time in securing the release of the matinee idol despite sending several emissaries.

November 15, 2015 marks the 15th anniversary of the end of captivity of Dr. Rajkumar, who passed away on April 12, 2006. One of the main reasons attributed to the cardiac attack the actor suffered was the long captivity in the jungles by the forest brigand.

"We have decided to release the movie on November 13 across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telugu in the respective languages and a month later in Hindi. We are excited with this project because nobody had attempted a movie on such a tough subject," said one of the producers of the movie.

The movie has a powerful star cast - Shivarajkumar (eldest son of Dr. Rajkumar), multilingual actress Parul Yadav, national award winning actor Sanchari Vijay, and NSD graduate Sandeep Bharadwaj. While Shivarajkumar and Parul Yadav portray the characters that trapped the forest brigand, Sandeep will be seen as Veerappan.

"This is a dream come true opportunity for an actress like me. Working with RGV sir was a fantastic experience. All the characters in the movie are realistic and they still exist. But their identity has been withheld for specific reasons. People, who watch this movie, will get to know how exactly Veerappan was killed. What was revealed to the public was only a portion of the truth. You will be shocked…" said Parul Yadav contending that the movie will be a trendsetter in south cinemas.

Killing Veerappan is currently under post production and the highlight of the movie is that there are no songs. The movie was shot extensively in the jungles of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It is to be seen if RGV regains his magical touch through this movie. He has already announced his next project based on the life of veteran underworld don-turned-social activist Mutthappa Rai, who lives in Bengaluru.
