October is celebrated as the month for International Books Fairs. Check out some of the largest and best-known book fairs from around the world:

Frankfurt Book Fair
To be held from October 11 to 15, this is the world’s largest fair for books, based both on the number of publishing companies represented, and the number of visitors. Publishers, agents, academics, service providers, film producers, professional and trade associations converge here.

BookExpo America
Held over four days in late May and/or early June, BEA is the largest book fair in the US. It was held in Washington, DC, as the American Booksellers Association Convention and Trade Show from 1947 until 1971. The 2018 edition will be held in New York on May 30 to June 1.

The New Delhi World Book Fair
First held in 1972 when it hosted 200 exhibitors, it is India’s second oldest book fair. Today the annual fair, organised by the National Book Trust, is the third biggest English language book fair in the world and caters to a domestic industry of almost 12,000 publishers working in 18 languages.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair
It is the leading fair for children’s books. Since 1963, it is held in March or April in Bologna, Italy. With over 25,000 visitors and 1,200 exhibitors in six halls, it is the place to connect and create all areas of content for children.

International Kolkata Book Fair
It is the world’s largest non-trade book fair, Asia’s largest and the most attended book fair in the world with over 2.5 million attendees. With 56 stalls of 34 publishers, the first Kolkata Book Fair was organised on March 5, 1976.

The Cairo International Book Fair
The fair is considered the most important event in the Arabic publishing world, drawing nearly 2 million visitors every year. It is also the largest and oldest book fair in the Arab world, held every year in the last week of January in Cairo, Egypt.
