Does the game tell you exactly where you need to go to find an item you need for a puzzle, or is it more like "solve x puzzzle here to progress," where you still need to look for the item?

If you watch the gameplay, it’s not, there are no QTE events when you get grabbed, no QTE prompts when you stun zombies in the head either.

Which is fine by me, but I hope the aiming speed and the wrestling finisher moves are present in Mercs.

  4. One of my first big games growing up. Was to you g to beat it so I just played the intro a thousand times. Can't wait to play it. Looks amazing.

Game comes out on my birthday!

The loss of an actual soundtrack when exploring the different areas is a big loss for me - it sounds like it's all just ambience now. Although, the fact you can make it so the original soundtrack plays instead (if you pay for it) makes up for it.

    So far we've seen:
    • Several emblem doors
    • A combo safe
    • Regular locked doors
    • A big emblem puzzle for the Main Hall Fountain, that hints via Officer Elliot Edward's Journal that each emblem is obtained via their own puzzles
    • Weapon Lockers key cards
    • Fuse box
    • "Rookie Assignment" puzzle, where you need to search the environment for info and determine how to properly order it to unlock Leon's desk.
Honestly, there's more puzzle/hint of puzzles than I recall from the same chunk of the original.

Not to mention RE2 was linear af to where it would be quite an achievement for this to be any more so.

Edit: That being said, most of the documents shown omit mention of Chief Irons, so some of that mystery is missing specifically in the demo. In the trailer we do hear Chief Irons and see Mayor Warren's daughter's body, so I'm leaning towards that just being missed by the issue of the demo being only 20 minutes.

A lot of it does look incredible, but there's also a lot that pretty much looks like a neutered RE6 as well as the parts of RE7 that I didn't like. The music apparently being gone/minimal is a pretty big fucking deal, I don't care if you wanted OTS controls or not, it would be inexcusable to toss out such a classic soundtrack. We've seen the main hall a few times and that theme has never played.

I won't be excited until I see some more stuff that reminds me of RE2 more than it does RE6 and 7. Hopefully we don't have to wait long to see more of the game.

I think Chief Irons starts to be mentioned when you get into the STARS work room, I think ? The fax talks about how Irons has had a history of sexual abuse and violence.

  12. This looks so great. I gotta say,I ever played any game in the series as of yet but over the years I managed to get the entire series during the steam sales, including the Revelation ones.
I keep saying to myself that I will jump in when the second game's remake will be released and the RE4HD project will be completed. Now,maybe I should just wait to remake RE3 as well?...

Kidding,RE2 is when I will join the fun (:

I’ll repeat something I already said yesterday after the reveal trailer: this IS Resident Evil 2. This looks exactly what we were getting the illusion of experiencing 20 years ago. Back then, they could only sell the illusion up to a point, mainly due to technical limitations. So there was a disconnection between what we were actually experiencing and what we were projecting. Nowadays those limitations are gone, and we’ll be playing and see before our eyes what our mind’s eye was projecting back in 1998.

    I couldn’t be more hyped!

    The RE Engine is nuts.

That close up of the dude with the eaten face legit made my stomach turn.

  16. The E3 demo reaffirms that this game is my game of E3 and most anticipated game so far. Looks absolutely fantastic. And this is from someone that was hoping they would return to pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed cameras.

I don't mind the lack of original RE2 music during gameplay. In fact, I can't even imagine it feeling right with OTS shooting, for whatever reason. Besides, they've given us the option to swap the tracks through DLC.

I'm sure the save room is going to have the remixed version of the original track though, there's no way they'd overlook that.

  18. I don’t like the zoom I the zombie reactions to getting shot either, I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I don’t think they reacted until the third shot in the 2nd game. I just need to stop bitching. I’m just excited and am used to strangely specific things.

This is EASILY the game of the show.

    - Something that wasn't even guaranteed to happen at this year's E3
    - Announcement Trailer
    - Trailer was actually stunning
    - Trailer ended with A RELEASE DATE (which isn't insanely far off)
    - A Playable demo was ready for E3

... All of this... in ONE.

That is something that a publisher does when they are extremely confident in their game. The game is reportedly done and has 6 or so months of polish before release.

    That is absolutely insane. GOTS!

The Gameplay videos actually looked really good, way better than the trailers. The change in camera perspective brings me back to RE4 but with a much slower pace in a more atmospheric setting for that horror feel. Might actually pick it up!

PS1 version on PSN store is perfectly serviceable. It has all the content.

In my own experience, the Gamecube version via emulation is the best one. Gamecube is the only version where you can skip the in-engine cut-scenes. I might be wrong but it also retains the 60 FPS CG scenes. Plus the available smoothing options in the emulator for 2D elements (re: all backgrounds) make the image quality more passable than other versions for me. Also you can inject custom textures in Dolphin and there are a few fan made texture packs to make all fonts, UI etc HD friendly.

I still like the PS1 version, it looks crisp, the loading times seems to strike the good balance between not too long and not too fast, the FMVs looks nice too.

I think it's the new unified UI for the RE series going forward. They're most likely making this the new template for the series.

I mean .. you don't have to move while shooting if you don't want to ....

going by the video, there's a huge aiming penalty if you try to move and shoot anyway, so it might only be suitable for shotguns.

I don't think I mind moving and shooting so much, but I would like a more weighty feel, like RE4/RE5. I don't really like when it feels like your ice-skating all over the place, and it looks like REmake 2 has that feel.

Well shoot, was so busy focusing on Record of Events going out of the way constantly from avoiding the word that I forgot to double check the cutdown Operation Report. Thanks for pointing it out.

I didn't see that fax in the footage shown so far, so good to hear about it. Just found it odd that they don't mention Chief Irons in the documents that originally did.

So seems they’re adding resident evil outbreak stuff, makes sense because it was happening at the same moment.
