I honestly didn't like Code Veronica enough to want to see it REmade. RE3, on the other hand, would be fantastic. I liked the loading animation from older games, in spite of the technical nature of it. I'm sure many others liked it too. I'm not sure which comment over here implied loading screens were a feature, but I can see why they'd miss it. I don't understand why it's so hard to comprehend or why it blows your mind. That's kinda my worry too, I think it's a valid concern. But I don't think you need to bring back door animations. I want the game to be larger but also consistent in quality.

Yeah you’re right that Leon’s new design isn’t too different from his old one but I think Capcom could manage it if they really wanted to. Maybe make the uniform a brighter shade of blue and change Leon’s hair colour a bit. I think it could work.
Yeah, RE2/3 both kinda take away the ammo scarcity problem once you've been in the game for about an hour. Basically, as soon as you've got three weapons (whether it's RE2 Claire, RE2 Leon, or RE3 Jill) you've also absolutely got enough handgun ammo to make most normal enemies no longer a real threat unless they're in groups or coming at you from multiple sides. RE3 Easy mode doesn't count because it's basically a zero-danger shooting gallery of course. It looks to me like RE2Make is making your base handgun *really* weak compared to those games (seriously, it takes tons of headshots to take down even one zombie). I suspect a couple of things: (1) the early portion of the game, at least, is going to be all about immobilizing enemies and doing what you have to do without actually killing them because you don't have the ammunition to actually kill every zombie and/or (2) there's going to be a weapon upgrade system that is at least on par with Leon's three huge weapon upgrades from the original RE2 but applied to both characters (I'm not seeing enemies drop any kind of currency so I don't expect anything RE4/5/6ish as far as upgrades go) and/or (3) RE3's "make this ammo type enough times and you start getting higher quantities of it and enhanced ammunition types" mechanic might return, since this game seems to bring back some of RE3's ammo crafting system. at the very very least, I expect Claire to be able to make explosive bowgun arrows (since combining two types of gunpowder into a pack of arrows strains even the ammo-crafting-system level of disbelief)
That moment in one of the streams where the zombie takes a shotgun blast point-blank to the face AND several handgun shots to the head still gets up is still freaking me out. I’m dreading (but excited) to see how many shots it’ll take to zombie Brad down
I'm being partly flippant, believe it or not. I respect Capcom, and I'm confident in these developers. I think the game looks good and will be good. But I also find "modernizing" or to a large extent homogenizing the experience by later and different popular games' standards creatively uninteresting. Making this game OTS ain't the bold thing to do. I'm the kind of the person who finds risks—boundaries pushed and trends bucked—most appealing in media, good or bad. And I guess I somewhat naively expected better here in this regard.
It really is. But another promising thing about this remake is that they don't have to follow the original game's model of ammo conservation, which wasn't that great in the first place. I think there's potential here for this game to be more survival horror than the original, as crazy as that sounds.
I love what we've been shown so far. There is really only one thing that bothers me a bit, something that I haven't seen brought up a lot, which is Leon's characterization. In the original RE2 he always struck me as being kind of a naive goody two-shoes. The way he swears in the remake seems a bit out of character to me, and seems a bit more like how I imagine he would talk in RE4 and onwards when he's been around for a while.

I like how they're making some changes to the police station to make it scarier like making the hallways unlit. The original game is oddly bright when I go back and watch some playthroughs. I really hope they enlarge some of the areas of the game. Like most PS1 games, it's way smaller than I remember it being. I love how they've compensated for the OTS view by making the zombies much harder to shoot. There appears to be a lot of bullets, but they offset it by making killings more skill based. Wonder how the interrogation room is going to be handled in this one. Instead of the mirror it busts through the wall or something or they make it so that you have to visit the room a half dozen times and never know which visit will be the one when it finally happens.
I think they're doing great stuff with the more complex station layout, the appearance of a brutal resource economy, and the darkness in general, but one thing I *will* say I miss from REMake/RE0 is the stark and stylized lighting. Give me hallways that alternate between total darkness and cones of illumination from an overhead lamp and stuff.
With fixed camera angles personally I find it more disappointing that indie horror devs haven't made any attempt to emulate that style outside of Vaccine (?) and maybe a few others. Hopefully with the universal praise this game is getting we'll finally see a revival in third person horror and people will remember that games can be scary without needing to be first-party or hide-and-seek simulators.
I'm not suggesting it isn't. It looks like it's throwing a lot of different things in the pot in a cool way. But I think fixed cameras just would've been far more interesting in an era when even a studio like Quantic Dream has a largely OTS camera in their latest cinematic adventure, Detroit.

The more I look at it, the more I think Claire's new face is her best one yet. It's honestly pretty close to what a more realistic depiction of this should look like, imo: I think the biggest issue is that she's already had like 5 different faces prior to this. I have a much bigger issue with Capcom's lack of consistency, than with the actual depiction.

Considering RE4 and RE6, the other 2 Leon games, feature an additional Ada campaign, they have to be making one for REmake 2 right? Even if it's DLC.
I think they'll follow RE2 strictly and not add any content that wasn't in the original RE2. We already know both main characters get separate campaigns. Hunk and Tofu were confirmed by name. Ex Battle wasn't mentioned by name but by all accounts it should be there. She's already playbale in OG RE2 for a section of Leon's campaign and as a player in the EX Battle Mode.
tbh Extreme Battle not being confirmed the same time as HUNK and Tofu has me worried they won't include it, at least not at launch.
It looks amazing, and I'll be there day 1. Like, it's everything I ever actually wanted in a reboot of RE2 and didn't actually knew I needed. The camera, the tough as nails zombies, the feel of the combat... Capcom is really nailing this one out of the park for me.
And to think the first picture is in-engine while the second one is a prerended cutscene. Impressive how far graphics have come in 20 years.
If it's free DLC after a few weeks it's still A-OK. But yeah, as mentioned above. Mercenaries would be better.
The lighting in this game is incredible. I might be in the minority in that I like the way young Leon looks and acts on what's supposed to be his first day on the job.
I'm totally fine with online modes not being included on the disc. They're not going to last forever. You can make better use of that disc space. Agreed. I think it gives us a better look at her character model than what we see in the reveal trailer.

The consistency is a little weird, but it is also such an old game. The features of the clothes are just a lot more modern, more modern leather jacket, the old one was a very 90s fashion with the boots and so on. The skin details are pretty nice also on the new character. I think if we get or when we get a Resident Evil 3 it will share more common features visually. And who knows maybe we will get RE2, 3, CVX, and then 4 to round out the series on remakes, would be nice :)
The only headlines I saw were gripes about Leon and Claire's faces but I haven't really been gauging reaction much outside of that admittedly.
Yeah I hope it to come at some point. And as much as people overplay the relevance of the police station in RE3, there is surely a hell of a lot of photogrammetry done for thousands of objects that can help fill out all the random background objects needed for RE3's Raccoon City. I think one of Capcom's streams even mentioned reusing some objects from RE7.
This is one of my fears with the game, they need to remember it's supposed to be set in 1998. Claire's design appears to be less 90s on that shot.
According to Maximilian Dood he said on PS4 Pro it was flucating in the upper 30s and rarely hit 50. So tbh, unless things change dramatically in the next 7 months, I don’t see it hitting 60fps consistently on any of the consoles. They wanted to make it look so good so I can understand why they would make that decision. RE7 had different design objectives with VR that demanded that. It could happen though, I hope it does but it seems only PC will have that option for consistency. Honestly doesn’t matter to me with this type of game. But otherwise I am so damn excited for this, it is what I always wanted out of a survival horror game.
