Okay y'all this is gonna sound like a hot take about the "This is America" video and the point I'm interested in exploring might not go over well in the thread about the video. Also this is not to undermine Glover's success, but do y'all think the This is America became as big as it did with everybody due to the video being able to be interpreted in a way that doesn't make white people feel guilty about the treatment of black people in America? As in, one could perceive the message of the video/song being about black on black crime and how people don't care to ignore the underlying message in order to feel "woke" without questioning the lasting impact of white supremacy on black people here.
