One female fan asked for a continuation during this staff talk event, and the producer said that they all want to rest for a little while first, but he's happy to hear that, and will let Sunrise know (that fans want more Origin). Nothing much unfortunately. :(

Well i finished Char's Counter Attack, and watched the first episode of War in Pocket. I wish there was a little more carry over from Zeta and ZZ in Char's counter attack. It was weird to see Bloom and Hathaway turn into more important characters. Really changed my feelings towards certain characters. The Sazabi and Nu- Gundam are cool as hell.
Is just me or Polycap Shoulder on HG IBO series not tight enough ? I build Barbartos,Barbartos Lupus,Astaroth annd Astaroth Origin. Arms of them keep falling when i move (I fixed it by use spare part from other kits)
I think it's only a matter of time at this point. The director expressed interest in it earlier if I recall and the OVA's definitely seem popular enough.
Yeah Char's Counter Attack is a pretty odd movie. I kinda... hate it to be honest. I really want a rewritten/remade version of it because its got an interesting hook but insufferable characters and baffling character decisions/personalities.
It has three good things. Soundtrack, mech designs and it looks good, that's it. Once you put your brain to it it fails pretty damn bad.
Seconding that CCA is bad. It's not a good movie in general, and it's especially damaging to Char's character. Seriously, why is he suddenly a bad guy again?
The whole thing erases all of his character development in Zeta. It's really just terrible and I like him in Zeta too.
If only there was some way we could've addressed Char's change by seeing his effect on other people that he was close to. Like if he had some kind of heroic protege who greatly respected him, or if he had a much kinder and down to earth sibling whose eyes we could see him through. Too bad there's no characters like that, right?
It’s odd. Going into things I always got the impression that CCA was well liked and respected or held up as one of the better Gundam things. I prefer MSG or Zeta Char. I like being able to root for Char because he’s so cool. By the end I was like wow dude... you are still upset about this? Kamille and Sayla being absent is REALLY baffling right? It feels like they wrote a story just so Amuro and Char to do a rematch and that was pretty much the only goal.
Bingo. It's pretty much a 0079 nostalgia trip. Zeta and ZZ are swept under the rug so that they can play up a rivalry that had already been resolved. The really unfortunate part is that there were plans for Char to show up in ZZ, but they were canned when CCA was greenlit. Nobody really knows what the plans were, but I'm pretty confident that it would have at least been more interesting than a nostalgia rehash.
To be fair, there’s still a moment in Zeta where you can see that Char still harbors hate for Earthlings...just not enough to drop an asteroid on them.
Would love for them to do a build up to CCA or something... like Char getting coaxed into being a representative of Zeon or something... realizing he has to be a face for spacenoids (Though thats Full Frontal territory)... SOMETHING. He really goes out on a sad note, and not feel bad for him, but just sucks that they wrote him this way. Amuro was already kinda a noted jerk by that point so he was not so different. But yeah them still crying over an underage girl 10 years later was some shit.
I think it was during some kind of hearing or conference or summit or something? I forget too. Earth representatives were being dicks and it upset him. That’s really it though.
I like CCA story, I mostly have problems with the pacing and lack of explanation of some sections (typical for a Gundam movie). The change for Char from a "good" guy to a "bad" guy without any buildup is kind of baffling. In the end it shows that Char, notwithstanding his AEUG stint, was always a petty man whose psyche was fucked because of what happened to his mother.
The Dakar Speech? Yeah, the speech seems more like a call to end evils like the Zabis and The Titans. In that speech he seems to say the earth is sacred and it needs to heal while humans leave for a bit, end the senseless wars and grow into Newtypes. I can see Char going from this reasonable philosophy to his CCA beliefs if there was a bit more of a catalyst.
I saw CCA before I had seen Zeta. It made a little bit more sense at the time, as a continuation of the original series
Char's Counterattack is a good move, but it's primarily a movie about Quess and Hathaway. Amuro and Char are largely second fiddle. The iconic legends who have been built up so much in the eyes of the rest of the world that they can't be anything but symbols, and what they want themselves is now largely irrelevant. As far as Char regressing from Zeta, I think it's largely down to just how done he is with everything by the time of the movie. The fighting hasn't stopped at all and humanity is still clinging to the earth, so he plays his role in putting an end to everything. And it's clear that Char is largely putting on a performance in the movie whenever he is in public. In his private scenes you can really feel the weight of what "being Char Aznable" is doing to him. Amuro and Char, for all that they've been through, are unable to escape the past, and they die rehashing a fight that they should have put behind them over a decade ago while arguing about a girl who died when they were teenagers.
Sadly Zeta Char is best Char so you really can't skip it. This is the saddest part about CCA because when you see them interact in Zeta they come off as former rivals and willing to put the past behind them a bit. Unless I'm remembering something wrong.
You guys are confusing Quattro for Char. Spoiler If anything he was with AEUG to help destabilize the EF by defeating the Titan power structure.
Char Ga Kuru is probably my favorite piece of rarely used Gundam music. It's pretty much a pimp theme that could have only came out of the disco era.
This is what I love so much about their deaths. You really get the sense that these two are relics and had to go. It’s sad and almost pathetic.

After almost 40 years, will we ever get an animated series where the MC piloting the Gundam is a woman? Preferably not the "mentally unstable newtype/cybernewtype girl" trope. Either being or becoming a decent pilot who isn't useless in combat would be a plus.
Please don't punch me >_< Doesn't Christina Mackenzie count? She's as much the MC as Bernie, she piloted a Gundam, and she technically won.
She does pilot the main Gundam of the series but I don't see her as the MC, Al is. I don't think Christina has any internal monologue or appears in many scene where it isn't because of other characters. So to me she is a supporting character not the MC. War in the Pocket is kind of unorthodox even for Gundam.
Finished that random gunpla using the colors you guys chose the other month lol. I actually quite like it. Will have to take a better picture tomorrow. Star Burning Gundam was actually super easy to make. Only planned on doing a few parts tonight and went for the whole thing. Got a little nutty with the brush at the end and made really nonsense marks on the backpack and shield lol... literally had masking tape next to the runners and paint but free handed it for no reason lol. Also did not think about how the clear blue parts were almost the exact same shade of blue I had -shrug- Still gotta top coat, and maybe lightly panel line it before some better pics get taken.
Shhh, if you tell no one, it seems intentional. Do mask them if you are applying a matte topcoat, though. I've heard that clear parts look atrocious with a matte topcoat. If the best Sunrise has done lately for a female MC is Cross Ange maybe despair is all that awaits. I guess the closest to a protagonist for Gundam must to be Hoshino Fumina even though Kamiki Sekai would still be the MC.
I actually have only made one other kit with clear parts on the actual gundam so not sure, I'd imagine if you do heavy/multiple layer of matte its gonna dull the clear parts to look cloudy. Was probably gonna gloss this one though... not sure which top coats I got left over. And yeah Fumina is as close as we got to a female lead so far it seems, then again shes basically a Dead or Alive character at this point with how they portray her
