That was made for Smash 4. The artist went ahead and made art for every past character at that point.

 

a few visual nods sure. He has mostly the same moveset as 2 games ago now while the movement in Odyssey would have been so great with using the cap to jump.
Even the final smash is just the same as Brawl.

Hopefully Awkward Zombie will be back at making Smash comics, especially now that "EVERYONE IS BACK" and that Ridley's in. The greatest thing ever would be Matthew Taranto coming back to Brawl in the Family, but he's busy with other stuff (like his recent Waluigi book kickstarter campaign) :P

 

Ganon[dorf] has killed Zelda's (and likely Link's) parents many times. They can still enjoy a good time together!

 

And let's not forget that Kirby is the most bloodthirsty monster of them all.

 

don't they just live in another universe inside Kirby? Hes from dreamland of all places and I don't think hes any kind of bloodthirsty

 

If you think about it, the fiery pits of hell are another universe.

I prefer Mega Man X Samus, it's adorable to see Mega Man be in awe of this giant robot seeming bounty hunter, and then the Zero Suit appears and he's all "hu-bwuh-iloveyou,"And there's almost this emotional connection of having machine be a huge part of your identity. Expectations for smash should be expecting the biggest characters to be not so great

This meme is getting tiresome. SSB has not developed recently fan art. They've been at it for more than 15 years. This thread is perfectly ok but the title makes me cringe. Overwatch (a game form 2016) this is not.
