James Remar does seem kind of awkward, but he was weird like that with Mortal Kombat too. Genre shows make him Scott Bakula for some reason.

Both have powers but neither necessarily have their dads powers and both are sperate from one another. In the comics, Anissa has the ability to increase her body's mass while maintaining size so she can create shockwaves and become strong etc. Jennifer meanwhile has electrical powers like her dad where she can manifest electricity including physically enveloping herself in electricity. Also, she can fly.

Remar clearly doesn't understand a word of what he's saying. The guy is in his 60s, but he's trying. He's got natural charisma that swings it.

The dad characters are usually the "I don't understand this superhero nonsense, explain it to me", but he's playing the damn tech guy.

  5. You should look up Joyce Wrice she's legit. I was mad surprised when I heard her song drop in this. I like thought no one listened to her but me and a select few. I feel like she's on the come up. She was on COLORS, now on here. I'm seeing success in her future and I was with her since the beginning.

Yeah I think that describes my issue with him perfectly. I just can't buy the character. And him having this super computer and hacking the police database... Ha, it's a tough sell. Still, I liked his scene with the ex-wife. But it could be fun if he turned out to be evil or something. His phony delivery would make more sense.

If his backstory is anything like the comics, it'll all make a lot more sense in time.

Ah, that's interesting. I've just read the first two issues yesterday and so far there have been some interesting hints.
Like the fact that he knows Talia Al Ghul.

  9. I really liked the way they handled his hacking, where they don't actually show it and just have him tell BL over the phone that he hacked into something. We have no idea what he did or how much effort it took or even how long it took, and that's how it should be.

  10. Really pleased with this show so far. Hoping it stays strong and continues handling some real life things as well as it does. I felt good about it from the first look (even with the suit being kind of cheesy) but am glad it doesn't seem like I overhyped myself.

Lawanda was done so wrong but I'm glad they did it that way considering how often it does happen. Maybe a superhero show will actually make some people finally understand some of these problems.

Legends of Tomorrow was a shitshow in the beginning.

Supergirl was merely okay. Arrow was tryhard.

Flash was the only one with a legitimately good pilot before now.

Agree to disagree about Legends. I enjoyed the first season to some degree, but the show really found itself in the 2nd season for sure.

Arrow was Batman-Lite and has still has problems coming to terms with that fact that it isn't Batman. Supergirl had a really fun pilot but lost character focus and still lacks it in many regards. Those two are fair. As far as Legends is concerned its problems were minimal early and only got worse as season one progressed but has gotten great since. Flash was also great but even it saw problems the power balance in the pilot but was able to avoid those with a killer villain. Black Lightning has promise I won't deny it has started well but for anyone worried they will lose it is justified to a point. I think what makes this show different is its structure and the unbridled passion that Salim Akil is displaying in interviews and the like.

I am not against any LGBT characters at all but this show needs to emphasize more on ass kicking. More more more action please and less unnecessary romance. Music is top class

  20. The hell? The romance scene with the daughter and her girlfriend was less than five minutes. It's Black Lightning and his ex-wife who have had the most romantic screen time.

I legit would prefer it if this show ran for a season and then stopped.

I do not want to see the decay inherent with a long running show.

Off the top of my head, Person of Interest is the only recent genre show that has managed quality ~100 episode run.

I don't see what was "unnecessary" about it, and as was already said, it took up very little time, especially in comparison to the main lead and his ex-wife's scenes, so I don't even know why you called that out specifically. I really don't see how someone comes to the conclusion that the romance is why you got little action this week, when a big part of the episode was how Jefferson was still reluctant to become Black Lightning again, that he initially wanted it to be a one-time thing.

Watched the pilot. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would after trying other CW shows, I like the family dynamic and it doesn't seem like this show is going to pull any punches. Williams has charisma and presence to pull off both sides of the identity game.

The costume is on some other level of awful, though. Whoever thought up those fisher-price lightening bolts should resign. I like the set-up of the aging hero returning (lots of TDKR vibes), but I think the way they handled this felt too rushed/convenient (like Gambi speaking with BL like he's been out of the game for years with no intention of returning, yet he has a new costume he's been working on just because...), it kind of all fell into place a bit too quickly. I guess we don't need another drawn out hero origin though, and the setting of the returning hero allows them to run past that. I just think it was a little too quick and a bit too convenient with Gambi's set-up all still being fully operational, etc...

Also does Gambi ever feel more integrated? Right now he seems very much tagged on as the oracle style side-kick. I also don't really feel the connection between him and BL, I hope this is developed more later.

Also, the daughters get powers too right? I read up on the source when I heard this was getting made and remember they had them in the comics, would be pretty neat if they followed that here.

I've never stuck with a CW hero show for more than a dozen or so episodes, ready to give this a shot.

Somebody hasn't watched a CW show before. There will be tons of romance, and it won't be unnecessary even though people will whine about it constantly.

I usually find cw romance annoying at least some of the time

Black lightning doesn't even come close especially the Anissa stuff which is like 5 minutes and seems to not be a pure romance subplot but character development for her

plus Grace Choi was cast and the girlfriend doesn't even have a name she won't last

Hey guys, haven't watched this yet. I know it's not in the Arrowverse but is it written as if it could be? Or would it need to be some multiverse stuff?

  33. Nothing either way yet, but it seems to me like it would fit better either as its own universe or with Supergirl's, since Black Lightning has been around for at least a decade or two. He could have been someone who was around during Superman's early days, if anything.

It has had a great start and being honest they could very easily say it has been part of the Arrowverse this whole time. The plot revolves around one city (as well as all backstory) with very brief mention of other heroes on a newscast in the first episode.

I was going to bring up that the Flash established that meta humans didn't exist until after the particle accelerator explosion but they fucked that all up with the JSA on Legends of Tomorrow if they count.

Salim Akil has already said he's given consideration to where in the multiverse the show would be, if it were to be in it. So should they want to integrate, he has an idea of how it would be done.

At this point with five different shows on television, three on CWSeed, one canceled, and who knows what else distantly related in development (Titans maybe) I am seriously waiting for the announcement of Crisis on Infinite Earths and them all to be brought together fully and completely.

    Crossovers are hype

There's not really much more than that, especially for a show like this that's quite different. DC TV and MCU have shown that audiences fucking love it and it helps them invest more though. But if you can't stand on your own aside from your universe it's like whatever.

For the crossovers pretty much. People love knowing that their superheroes can pop up on other shows from time to time. Like last year's crossover was a real blast in numerous ways. (Alex and Sara omg)

That said, for Black Lightning I currently feel differently. Literally the only personal benefit I could think of at this point in time is for Jefferson to meet Joe West from The Flash. That's it. That small interaction aside, I currently don't feel the slightest bit compelled to have a crossover, or have it be a part of their universe.

Basically just crossovers with the other shows (which is always a lot of fun), which probably wouldn't happen too often since I believe Black Lightning doesn't film in the same city as the other Arrowverse shows.
Black Lightning seems to take place on an Earth where there isn't any other super-heroes (or at least they haven't been mentioned in the first 2 episodes) however in the Arrowverse there's 52 alternate dimensions with different Earths (Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow all take place on one, Supergirl takes place on a different alternate Earth) but they can travel between dimensions so I'm sure this show is set on one of the alternate Earths and they can do a crossover if they really wanted to.

Brand synergy... the DC Multiverse in TV form

But I cannot see this show really working with the crazier shows honestly... Arrow would be the closest, and even then it;s still not quite right

Meh, not as if the events of the last couple crossovers even meant anything in the long run with it being pretty much forgotten about by the next episode.

Oh, it's mainly the crossover hype. I guess that could interesting in the future, but not sure if I'd want to see an episode dedicated to a crossover event unless Black Lightning gets more then 13 episodes a season.
