Sadly you're probably right. But i'd hope they'd realize the role they played in that election. I realize that now he's the president that you simply can't ignore him, but by now they should know that many of his rallies have nothing substantive. They're just ego strokes. And they don't need to spend all day talking about some idiotic tweet that he made about someone or something that morning.

    LOL, that's all fantastic, haha.
I'm sure the Fox Show this was on made this sound like the coming of Satan, but I just find it hilarious anyone could read those bullets and not think over half of them is great (I can understand religious ignorance for some of them, but most of that stuff is great no matter what).

I'm sure all they have to say it:"and she's gonna make you pay for it all with HIGHER TAXES!" to get everyone watching that shit to immediately disregard it.

Also, it feels like it's time for LGBTQ... Community to come up with a shorthand name with how many letters its getting these days (a task easier said than done in sure).

Something that never caught on but lots of people are in favor of is "GSM" meaning gender and sexual minorities. Some say that "queer" is all encompassing but that's a harder sell.

You should have seen what they said on the Five. They talked about her attractiveness and said she would be a star on every cable news channel. One guy said he couldn't pronounce her last name because it was a "tongue twister." Some lady laughed. They said they have to give her a nickname like OC. They went on to say she is too far left and that her principles wouldn't work unless she was running for office in Venezuela.

Why is Venezuela always the go-to dig at Socialists and Social Democrats?
    Is it the brown boogieman?
They always seem to leave out the entirety of Europe, Japan, and essentially all other developed nations who have a strong social safety net and social programs in one form or another.

because the goal is to demonize the concept of a social safety net, not to accurately reflect the state of various forms of social democracy around the world. The dominant form of conservative thought in America does not value reviewing evidence objectively or building a better life for the average person.

It’s a shining example to conservatives of the failures of socialism in the West. Nuance to the situation in Venezuela however is not something that those on the right will care or want to talk about. It’s simply easier to throw socialism under the bus as the sole reason Venezuela is not prosperous.

Never mind that their main export, oil, has been consistently screwed with via OPEC, they had shoddy leadership that thought just minting more money would fix their debt, and general corruption to name a few. John Oliver does a pretty good deep dive into the country I’d suggest watching.

I know it’s a radical thing to visualize, but a government’s ideology is only as good as the people who can implement it effectively with the most good for their citizens.

On some level, it's an asset. The degree to which some voters' distaste for Clinton was based on hating women over a certain age (especially their "shrill" voices) is revolting, but also impossible to ignore. If we're ever going to elect a woman to the Presidency in this country, young and attractive can only help.

I don't want to be that guy, but If this country was too sexist to let one of our most qualified female politicians in, they're sure as hell not letting a Hispanic woman in. That's 2 firsts at once.

I don't know if it's that simple. By the time she runs we could be in an entirely different climate. If she manages to figure out the practical side of her policy goals, she could be similar to Sanders (enthusiasm wise) without any of the baggage. I mentioned this earlier, but racists will always be racist. You won't swing them. AOC will have no issues proving to people of color that she's the real deal, which is a problem both Bernie and Hillary had. IMO if she walks the walk she could be a better Obama, if some comparison must be made.

Well, there's no way AOC would be as accommodating to the scourge known as the GOP so that's a plus. She's also more progressive to begin with, too.

  26. Among other things that other posters have mentioned, because New York's Democratic machine is incredibly corrupt and undemocratic. It's set up in every way to make sure that anyone who gets office through them stays in office for life, with zero accountability; Crowley himself was appointed to his seat in 1998 after it was too late for anyone else to enter, and hadn't faced a primary since 2004.

    I really like this angle

Economic Justice has a nice ring to it and obviously calls out one of our largest failings

Our government getting undermined and hosed by private interests, corporate buyouts and enslaving our legislators to embarrassing levels of fundraising grovelling

The nordic model is highly suppported by socialists.

Btw, she is not a socialist, but a socialdemocrat. Perhaps a left-wing socialdemocrat, but not a socialist.

Or I guess it might depend on the political spectrum of the country.

Out with the old, in with the new. Progressive democrats need to start replacing what we have currently.

  37. Pretty much, but Sanders is frequently tone-deaf on his messaging around intersectionality, which has given a lot of unnecessary ammunition to people who seek to paint him as a class reductionist obsessed with winning racist white votes at the expense of minorities. AOC and other younger, more diverse left-wing candidates aren't going to make those unforced errors.

As I read up on her I'm liking this lady more and more. The dems need more like her: relatively young and have a damn backbone. People who aren't afraid to actually say they're liberal in public and if you don't like it tough shit.

Down here in FL we're getting bombarded with ads for senator later this year and Bill Nelson's commercial is like he's petrified to be associated with democrats. You've been a senator for like 40 years wtf are you afraid of? Everyone knows who you are by now. Stop pandering to republicans and make them reveal themselves as the pieces of shit they are by publicly opposing obviously good things, like in the Hannity stuff shown in this thread.

For a while, Venezuela used to be the poster boy for tons of old-school socialists and intellectuals like Noam Chomsky, who pushed for equality and freedom at their homes but turned a blind eye to the authoritarian elements of Hugo Chavez.

It's like China. Students in the 60s used to adore Mao and justify his extermination programs, thus giving ammunition to the far right.

Hell yea. It's time to tear down the democratic party's crusty-ass leadership brick-by-fucking-brick. It's HIGH time for the dems to grow a spine and start making farther left opinions not only heard, but shouted from the rooftops.

Yeah, it was pushed as a PR thing quite heavily among certain types, and while going "hurr durr Venezula" Fox News crap on unrelated people is dumb, pulling receipts on people who pushed Chavez and Venezuela as some sort of left wing example is very much a good thing.

  44. Any actually knowledgable socialist will tell you about intersectionality. The concept that you have to work on solving class, race, gender and sexuality rights issues in unity and with universal support from all socialists. Trying to reduce any of these issues down to a mere question of "this will solve everything else" is literally ignoring everything history tells us and just outright stupid. The calls for "not bringing race into it, it's an economic issue!" are laughable. Luckily, there's a generation hopefully being spearheaded by Alexandria that understands that socialist unity is of utmost importance and that excluding people who are working on their own end to solve the same issues needs to gtfo.

Yup. Fred Hampton and the Black Panthers knew intersectionality as well. Race and economics are intertwined with each other like space and time.
