    On any of these?
    • iPhone 5S, 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X
    • iPad Air, Air 2 and 5th-gen and 6th-gen iPad.
    • iPad Mini 2, 3, and 4.
    • All iPad Pro Units.
    • 6th-gen iPod Touch.
Apple's iOS 11.4.1 update came out a few hours ago, and with it comes USB Restricted Mode, a feature that the Titan Of Privacy himself smiles on. USB Restricted mode is designed to better protect your iOS device from hardware unlocking boxes used by hackers and law enforcement to gain access to your devices. With this mode, if over an hour passes since the device has been unlocked, the lightning connector will block all data and will only allow power. It is enabled by default, but you can turn it off if you choose to (Cupertino is all about choice, but you still should not turn it off, you want it enabled!).

Just one more way to protect your privacy against those that may maliciously want to crack into it.

It will still be a cat and mouse game for a bit, but it's still better than nothing.

This is a little disingenuous. There isn’t a malicious security threat that requires attention RGHT NW. It’s a welcome feature but nothing worth pulling the fire alarm about. That day will come.

I googled it in response to your post and I think maybe your ire is misdirected at me instead of people typing the name of a city as shorthand for the name of a company that already has a shorter name than the name of the city.

What possible reason is there to use the word Cupertino to refer to Apple?

I don't quite get it. If the phone is unlocked, why would it limit the USB like that? What's the point? If the police or someone has hardware unlocked the phone, cant they just lock it before that hour and then unlock it again? Or wouldn't they have gotten your data within that hour?

Nope, only this dude for whatever reason. Every. Damn. Time. I work and live in the Bay Area ffs, in Silicon Valley, no less, and am friends with a handful of Apple engineers and STILL have not heard anyone but this human being refer to apple as "Cupertino".

Cool will update now. Any small amount of protection between me and those Boxes that can dump iPhone data is good in my book.

I'm already on 12. Which has an automatic update feature that will make sure you never have to manually update again. (And I know a lot of people who put it off or never update because it means they have to not be able to use their phone for a few minutes.) It'll update while you sleep.

It’s like how no one in the Bay Area refers to San Francisco as “Frisco” but people who don’t live here do.

YUP. Same with "San Fran" and calling California "Cali". I don't know why people are so drawn to these abbreviations, I honestly never hear them in popular culture/media stuff or whatever, but 90% of people I talk to from out of town ONLY call it the abbreviations nobody here users. It's nuts. I always telling people to please just call it SF or "the city", but I feel I'm making the world a better place by doing so.

Does this fix the audio stuttering glitch on iPad? If not, I'm not bothering with it. Fuck security. Give me proper podcast playback.

Huelen calling Apple "Cupertino" kinda leads to an instant derail of every thread - can we somehow avoid this? Either, how about Huelen accept that people find this really silly and just stop doing so?

That would be very much in the interest of your threads actually staying more on topic - which should be your highest priority, should it not? Otherwise, it's just trolling, ... right?

Also - Good move by Apple.
Though not an update i'd urge people to install right the fuck now, but rather one they should definitely install when prompted.

Don't do this if you're even remotely interested in jailbreaking your device on 11.3.

Neat feature. Hopefully Seoul has a similar feature in the pipeline.. even though it usually takes Dallas way too long to push out OTA updates.

If you lock the screen while audio is playing, it'll start to stutter for a couple of seconds. It's pretty easy to notice if it happens to you.

Answer is the same as most people, though most don't think about it: EVERYTHING

Think about it. For most people, their smartphone is THE most personal computer they will ever own. You have your contacts, your credentials, your everything all in one place. It's a wallet, your safe, and everything else. Of course you want to keep your shit as protected as possible.

Don’t you have to unlock to trust a new USB device? If so, how does this help because it’s supposed to protect from being connected without your consent to a grey box?
