Saw this on Reddit about him speaking English: Which sounds right because that guy with the boots wasn't french.
I was hoping he said his name was Sam. Guess they all meet up next season at one point and come together.
I thought in the pilot when Elenor found out that he was speaking in French to her and her wondering how she could understand him, Michael said that in the Good place there is instant translation so that soulmates who might be from different parts of the world can interact and understand one another.... If he in fact could speak English, then why not just say that in the pilot...
I looooved that Cheers homage. And that kiss—"hot diggidy dog" was apt. Wasn't the funniest episode, though there was still plenty to enjoy (Taylor Spliff). This was one of the ways I was predicting the show would go, although I didn't think it would start in this episode and lead into next season. I figured it'd be a twist at the end.But I also don't know where they go next season. Somehow Jason and Tahani will meet and then all four will come together to go back? (Lost echoes.) The how and why I can't imagine—more Michael interfering maybe, which I hope doesn't screw it up. Or what end that'll bring them to. We don't know what threshold they have to reach to pass this test. Do they have later deaths coming or planned? Or will they somehow find out about the afterlife? And is this even real? The way Michael went out a side door suggested it might be a simulation or something. Welp, gonna be a long wait until next season.
Thanks! What a great episode. Bit sad that we won't have a similar dynamic next season but I'm still excited.
Well that was a disappointing ending to the season. I hope they burn through this scenario in the next season as quickly as they did the note scenario this season.
Oh I just realized that this was how Chidi had always envisioned him meeting Eleanor, where she comes to him asking for help with philosophy. D:
I thought this was a possible direction for them to go. I was surprised they jumped into it so fast (I thought it'd be more of a cliffhanger ending to reveal this new angle if they went this way as opposed to showing it for most of the episode), but perhaps I shouldn't be surprised as this show is always paced so fast. I'm excited to see where they take the show next season. This has been pretty much perfect for two seasons. Easily my favorite show still airing right now.
I was mildly disappointed at first but after thinking about this episode I think this is actually an excellent episode and premise for the next few episodes that I totally expect them to resolve in no more than 3 installments
i was joking earlier that at the rate this show goes, this premise might be resolved by as soon as the next cold open
Well was not expecting that. Can't wait to see where they go with this. I wonder how Tahani and Jason learned from their near death experiences.
The show always manages to surprise me. I agree this new test for them to be good on Earth or whatever it is, won't last all of next season but I would be cool with seeing an episode focused on each of the other 3 before they meet up. I also liked the fact that Eleanor didn't completely stay good, but backslid and went back to her old ways before getting another push from Michael in the right direction. Hot diggity dog, I cant wait to see the road next season takes. Maya Rudolph continued to be great as the judge. Cheers reference was great.
Probably because he just defaults to french. He was in a new situation, and since he was speaking it, it sounded like everyone else was, and he didn't know otherwise until it was brought up.
Wait, that’s it? Please tell me there’ll be another episode next week. I can’t wait until season three!
I woke up with a big grin on my face just thinking about Ted Danson bar tending with the towel over his shoulder. So, so good
Yup 3 seems like a good guess. I'm imagining the premiere will be from Chidi's perspective, with him being visited by Eleanor mid ep, and then there'll be episodes where they are joined by Tahani and Jason, and then...they'll all die in a freak accident? Or maybe it'll be revealed it's a simulation and it'll be turned off when they're together and better.
I assume that you're right because Michael shows up - have we seen demons in the real world at all yet before this? But, I do not think we will see a bunch of real world resets.
Not that I'm aware of, but it shouldn't be impossible. If they have the technology to do resets, they should be able to go to the real world.
The way the judge reacted makes me think that it could be real. Actually, that would be better because it'll make the next season more depressing. Maybe they have a limited amount of time.
I was bummed there was very little Tehani and Jason in the finale, but it was a nice setup for next season. I wonder if next season they'll just continue with showing everyone's individual tracks for a while or if it'll be like season 2 where they burn through that story pretty quickly to get everyone to meet?
It can't be real. Michael and the judge clearly said that this wouldn't effect anyone but them. If it was real they clearly would effect others.
I'm sure next season will be looking at "the push" from the perspective of all of the others remaining. I wonder if Janet will interfere with Jason's at all. :D
Great episode. BTW for everyone saying they are back on Earth, I'm pretty sure it's a simulation of some kind. If it's could affect anyone other than the four main characters, then everyone else in the simulation would potentially have opportunities to "be better." Loved the Cheers reference!
That was a great episode. I didn't expect them to take this direction at all. It will be interesting to see where the third season goes with this, though they'll probably resolve it fairly quickly. Michael behind the bar was great.
The wait til next season is gonna be unbearable. What a great episode. edit: I guess I can finally start my first Cheers watch now.
thinking it over i'm not really sure what to think about the finale. dont get me wrong it was great but i cant help think that if they do a season back in the "real world" that may take some fun out of the show since a lot of the afterlife gags may not happen as much.
Honestly, that was kind of a disappointing finale. I was expecting something as balls to the wall insane as the S1 finale. The whole episode played out pretty predictably after Eleanor was sent back to the real world or put in a simulation or whatever. And there wasn't enough Jason and Tahani.
Damn good episode. I hope Michael shows up in the real world across the next few episodes in various references to his previous roles, like showing up as Jason's Doctor or something. Also I don't see it being a Simulation if only because if they had the ability to do that, why would they have made all the fake people in the fake Good Place demons? Why not just simulated people, unless everyone in the Earth simulation is a Demon/Angel/whatever.
Them getting put into a virtual sim of the real world to prove their goodness and completely removing them from any Good Place, Medium Place, or Bad Place is "predictable"?
It actually really was. Pretty sure some variation of "They're going to get put back in the real world" was brought up even in this thread a few times.
This is a bold move putting them back in "reality" without the zaniness of the afterlife and everyone playing off of each other. That said, Season 2 nailed what they set up so I'll wait and see.
