May and Brock

ShoppingShipping (Japanese: 'タケハル' TakeHaru) is the belief that May and Brock belong in a romantic relationship. Its name comes from the fact that May and Brock go on shopping sprees together, starting in Taming of the Shroomish. It is also called NeoThirdWheelShipping because Brock and Tracey were seen as 'third wheels' to Ash and Misty.

Evidence

May's hints

After discovering Brock has a town map, May quickly decides to go with Brock, while Ash and Max go off to get something to eat. After Brock manages to get supplies, May asks what he got, and joyfully compliments him that he's "reliable and so organized" after he tells her.
Brock decides to go shopping to stock up on supplies, and May goes with him, just like in Taming of the Shroomish.
When Ash captures Taillow, May seems to be scared and hides behind Brock.

Brock's hints

When May was hungry, Brock happily cooked for her.

Similarities

  • They are both the child of a male Gym Leader.
  • They are both the oldest child in their family.
  • They both care towards their sibling(s).
  • Their mothers are very intimidating towards their fathers, and can be stubborn and/or headstrong.
  • Both Brock's mother Lola and May own an evolved form of Eevee and Squirtle: May's Glaceon and Wartortle, and Lola's Vaporeon and Blastoise, respectively.
  • Both have taken care of Eggs that hatched Normal-type Pokémon: May's Eevee (now a Glaceon) and Brock's Happiny (now a Chansey).
  • Both were the first of Ash's friends to own a Generation IV Pokémon: Bonsly for Brock and Munchlax for May.

Alternate names

This Shipping is also called JailbaitShipping, BrockGetsLuckyShipping, and SugarDaddyShipping, all in reference to their supposed age difference and are used humorously.
