GILGIT: The Indian army’s casualties doubled in recent days, rendering the cost of ceasefire violations unbearable for the adversary, Commander of 10 Corps Lieutenant-General Malik Zafar Iqbal said on Friday.

“Only 20 of our soldiers embraced martyrdom while they lost more than 40 soldiers,” the corps commander told a selected gathering of parliamentarians and journalists in Gilgit. The gathering was also attended by the region’s Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman, and Commander of Force Command Northern Areas (FCNA) Major-General Saqib Mehmood.

India violated Line of Control ceasefire 103 times, Senate told

“If they violate the ceasefire during the day, we manage to settle the score before evening, but if it [the violation] occurs during night, we respond in kind before dawn,” said Lt-Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal.

Earlier, the corps commander visited the Khunjerab Top – the entry point of the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – where he inaugurated an ATM machine.

According to him, India had set up a special section within its intelligence apparatus for obstructing the CPEC. “But we are ready to foil the enemy’s nefarious designs.”

The corps commander, who visited the area 10 days after a sit-in was staged by a religious group on the Karakoram Highway, urged public representatives to settle internal conflicts through negotiations, instead of staging protest demonstrations on highways.

India must own its military casualties, Gen Raheel tells Modi

He said until recently, the government had been worried about the law and order situation in G-B, but the region was now one of the most peaceful areas in the world because of the combined efforts of government and public representatives. “This is all because of teamwork,” he said.

Expressing the hope for rapid development, the corps commander said: “Work will soon start for building a cadet college at Chilas and Gilgit-Skardu road after completion of formalities.”

“The army is determined to eliminate terrorism across the country,” he was quoted as telling the chief minister.

How is it that Indian causalities are always in multiples of Pakistani losses?Recommend

Pakistani civilians need to force their politicians to be bold and take out this country from a national security state to an advanced science-loving welfare state. Else, we would be nothing more than another North Korea in the making.Recommend

What kind of mindset is this? Why is the LOC being kept hot? Is it to push infiltrators before the snowfall and keeping chances of present COAS’ extension issue alive?Recommend

Yes India is suffering a huge and unbearable losses and that’s the reason Pakistan is running around the world asking for someone to help and mediate so that India comes to the table and talk.i see the same rhetoric used perviously by Pakistani army in 1965 and 1971.Recommend

@Ramesh Kumar – Pakistan’s Armed Forces have gone through the wringer, fighting insurgencies on its western border for more than a decade now and have thus become battle hardy. Field engagement in real time (not a mere military exercise) coupled with faith in the Almighty have no substitutes and there are no short-cuts either. The US spent over a trillion dollars, lost more than 5000 soldiers, thousands more Afghan soldiers, children, women and the elderly lost their limb and life and Afghanistan is still embroiled in conflict with the finest fighting machine in the world, which has been forced to retreat.Recommend

Simple. If India’s losses are double of yours, do not complain against cease fire violations, in fact you should encourage and contribute to increase of such violations. Frankly speaking, I am enjoying the jokes of Pakistani Navy and Army. Keep it up. We can not compete with you in cracking such ludicrous jokes. Recommend

1st they said 7 and now saying 20.Seems they are now adding the previous surgical strike no which they have denied earlier to Indian claims. Note the number may be of Pakistan’s soldiers only minus militant casualties.Recommend

    @Pukubanger:
Why not , every human life is important and we are sane people to approach international community to force your govt to stop this insanity .
And we can’t match your level as you and your army gave the world a new definition of surgical strikes lately Recommend

Some of the Indian soldiers must have been Muslin too who would have been “Martyred”, hence reducing the number of soldiers “KILLED”, the actual toll could be in 100s.Recommend
