Vice president donates a month's salary to Kerala relief fund

NEW DELHI: Vice president Venkaiah Naidu, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha along with other Rajya Sabha members on Monday announced to donate their one month's salary to Kerala relief fund to support state government's relief efforts.
Earlier, leaders from various states had also came forward to donate their salaries to Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
All MPs and MLAs of Shiv Sena also announced today to contribute their one-month salary to the relief fund. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also announced that their MPs will donate their one-month salary.
Among the chief ministers who announced to donate their salaries to Kerala flood victims are Telangana deputy chief minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Along with his own salary, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had also announced that all Congress MPs and MLAs of Punjab would donate their one-month salary. A Punjab government statement had said the decision followed a directive from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Punjab government has also announced Rs 10 crore in aid that the state government had announced to release for flood-ravaged Kerala.
Delhi chief minister Kejriwal also urged all party ministers, MLAs and MPs to donate a month's salary for flood-hit Kerala. Delhi government had also announced a contribution of Rs 10 crore to Kerala.
The chief minister of Orissa, Naveen Patnaik, had also announced additional financial assistance of Rs 5 Crore for Kerala from its own Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This is in addition to Rs 5 Cr sanctioned earlier. He has also ordered 500 MT of polythene sheets worth about Rs 8 Crores to be sent to Kerala.
