The year of the Majora's Mask references continues.

Nintendo revealed Skull Kid, the child villain from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, will appear as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai clarified on Miiverse that Skull Kid was an assist trophy and not a new fighter added to the roster. You can see the original post here. Sakurai’s quote gave no indication whether Skull Kid would also appear in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS.

Majora’s Mask originally released in 2000, and for the past few years fans have clamored for a remake on current Nintendo hardware. Some references to Majora’s Mask have slipped into a handful of Nintendo games in 2013 including Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has hinted at the possibility of a remake a few times this year. When we asked him about it back in September, he responded, “Please write that I laughed.”
