Massachusetts mayors strongly support fair and equal treatment under the law for transgender people in Massachusetts. That’s because they know this makes our communities stronger.
They’re speaking out in support of our Commonwealth’s non-discrimination laws protecting transgender people from discrimination in public places. Public places include restaurants, retail shops, and hospitals. These mayors are urging their constituents to vote ‘YES’ and uphold these protections at the polls this November.
Mayors Have A History of Support:
Two years ago, a coalition of mayors was at the forefront of urging the General Court and Governor Baker to swiftly pass legislation to update Massachusetts’ existing non-discrimination law to protect transgender people from discrimination.

Cities and towns flourish when the laws protect everyone from discrimination, and mayors know our Commonwealth benefits when we expand these protections.

Under the banner Mayors for Freedom, these leaders agree that our cities are safer, and our state thrives, when the law affords transgender people explicit protections in public spaces.
