About Us

Welcome to Notts Derby Wine School, an independent wine education company whose aim is to provide Wine Tasting for Everyone! 

We are not tied to any wine merchant or retailer and so we are able to offer impartial advice and taste only wines we believe are good examples of their type.

We like to teach about wine by concentrating on the flavours and aromas of each example. We look at the wine’s taste profile and explain how the characteristics of the grape can be influenced by the climate and local winemaking styles.

As we do not sell wine, we can show you where to buy the best wines locally and at the best prices. We work with local independent wine merchants as well as national merchants to bring you the best tasting & most interesting wines currently available.

Our Wine Courses are run by owner Debbie Ault. With over 15 years experience working in the hospitality industry Debbie has followed her passion for wine and is now running the wine school!! Debbie also ran courses at our Birmingham Wine School and is has completed her WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits so you are in safe hands! 

The Wine Tastings and Wine Courses are, above all, fun, entertaining and set in a relaxed atmosphere. They are seated, and tutored, and usually include visual aids and notes. Professional ISO tasting glasses are provided and no previous wine tasting experience is required. Our guests come by themselves, in couples or in larger groups and it is also a great way to meet others with the same interest in tasting and learning about wine.

Nationally, our group of wine schools are proud to have reached the finals for two of the most prestigious awards in the wine industry. Harpers Wine & Spirits magazine selected us as among the UK’s top 3 companies for Wine Education in 2013 and the International Wine Challenge (IWC) selected us as finalists for Wine Educator of the Year 2012.

The wine school family also run courses in 15 other locations - Edinburgh, Yorkshire, Hertfordshire, Manchester, Cambridgeshire, Newcastle, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Lancashire, Brighton, Tunbridge Wells, Southampton, Winchester, West London and East London. We will be adding more locations soon.
