Brickbat: The Last Place You Look

Child in a carEaniton / Dreamstime.comA worker in a a Milwaukee tow lot found a crying 4-year-old girl in a van that had been towed to the lot about eight hours earlier after the girl's mother was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. City policy says police are supposed to search vehicles before they are towed, and the vehicles are supposed to be searched again when they arrive at the lot.

    The girl wasn't found until about 8:30 a.m. when she was heard "very upset and crying."

    The Fire Department was called to check the girl for exposure after eight hours in cold weather. It appeared the girl was OK but she was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

    The temperature overnight Tuesday dropped to 18 degrees.

    And they're not usually gentle towing vehicles to impound. I sure hope someone gets a stern talking to unless of course they hopefully find a way to lay this off totally on the mother.

  • Jerryskids||

    The mother left her child alone in the vehicle overnight in freezing weather, I'm sure they can find several charges to lay on her. Then there's the trauma, the pain and suffering, she caused to the arresting officers and the towing company employees by making them complicit in the episode. What a horrible woman, making these brave heroes risk her child's life.

    Still, I'd suggest checking the vehicle inventory list for 1 (One) Child, Size Small, Crying, Slightly Blue. Who says they didn't search the vehicle?

    "The mother left her child alone in the vehicle overnight in freezing weather"

    That would be complete and total bull shit. She did not voluntarily leave the child alone in the van, she was pulled over and arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, The van was towed because of her arrest.

    Termination of parental rights appears to be this child's best shot. Good luck to the child welfare authorities.

    Because freezing to death in a parking lot would be a more humane death than dying in an auto accident?

  • Cy||

    Whats the penalty for goverment stooges not doing their jobs? Wait... What? There isn't one!?!?

  • Jerry B.||

    Qualified immunity, as the instructions to check such vehicles twice were not clearly communicated to the officers.

  • Cy||

    No biggy, It's not like they've been getting away with murder.

  • Conchfritters||

    Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "stupid fucking cops."

    This didn't happen on President Obama's watch.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Obama was President?

    Must have been pretty bad presidency since its was so forgettable.

  • OpenBordersLiberal-tarian||

    Obama presided over the strongest economy this country has ever seen.

    PS — He also won a Nobel Peace Prize. What do you think, they give those out for no reason?

  • Sevo||

    "What do you think, they give those out for no reason?"
    Pretty much.

  • Sevo||

    Hey, is turd banned?
    If the ban-hammer starts falling on the lairs, Tony and the Hihn-crowd's in trouble.

  • OpenBordersLiberal-tarian||

    If you look in this topic there are several Sarah Palin's Buttplug posts that have disappeared.

    I love Reason, but if they really have banned Mr. Buttplug I think that's a major mistake. I will try to partially cover his beat by posting links describing how terrible the #DrumpfRecession is, but it won't be the same because my economics knowledge lags far behind his.

  • Sevo||

    "...but it won't be the same because my economics knowledge lags far behind his."

    Now, That is FUNNY!

  • AlmightyJB||

    I think it would be easier to let you know when I'm not being sarcastic.

    These never happened before Trump. Hello.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Lefties sure are butt hurt how great trump is doing.

    Government shutdown for 3 days and even the media cannot fabricate a believable story showing we need 75%+ of the federal government agencies.

  • Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland||

    The liberal-libertarian mainstream is recounting an administration in meltdown.

    The disaffected right-wing losers are crowing about Trump's winning streak.

    Which group is educated, modern, accomplished, and successful? Which group is our stale-thinking, culture-war-losing, left-behind, no-count malcontents?

  • Griffin3||

    Which group is educated, modern, accomplished, and successful?

    That would be the group that is too busy working, actually accomplishing stuff, even on Christmas Eve, to really give a fuck on way or another about either version of the current administration's fake news.

  • Earth Skeptic||

    That's so deplorable.

  • Jerry B.||

    Probably not, since Milwaukee is strongly Democratic.

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    First!

  • SQRLSY One||

    Was the 4 year old an illegal sub-human? If she was, then this is all OK, more than OK, excellent method of repelling illegal sub-humans, and Der TrumpfenFuhrer deserves another medal!

  • OpenBordersLiberal-tarian||

    If the President withdraws U.S. troops from Syria, it will be one of the worst foreign policy blunders of this century. Make no mistake, ISIS is not defeated, and we must not betray our partners who are taking the fight to the terrorists.

    Withdrawing from Syria is the worst thing Drumpf has done since putting Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. As a Clinton voter, I know we need to fight the terrorists over there so we don't end up fighting them here. This indefensible move is more proof that Orange Hitler conducts foreign policy for Russia's benefit, not America's. Mueller must take this into account and work through holiday vacation so he can finish his investigation as soon as possible.

    "Consumers, Congress: Stand up to tech giants"
    [...]
    "With yet another wave of revelations about Facebook's data privacy practices sweeping across the media, we are now learning more than ever about how Big Tech companies monetize our personal data, cutting preferential arrangements across the industry.
    Though the tactics are new, the attitudes of companies like Facebook are anything but. Nearly 140 years ago, an oil executive relayed a line that his one-time protege, the world's first billionaire, reportedly uttered as he snuffed out his competitors in the Midwestern energy market: "I have ways of making money that you know nothing of."..."

    /article/Consumers-Congress-Stand-
    up-to-tech-giants-13485632.php

    Wherein the CEO of Consumer Reports makes an ass of herself citing a 'breakup' which did nothing to help the consumer, nothing to help the already multiplying competitors; in fact nothing at all other than make Rockefeller richer than he was.
    But the government and proggy niwits like her 'did something', right?

  • Vernon Depner||

    the mother apparently didn't mention the 4-year-old.

    I'm thinking that's very unlikely, but much of the outcome of this will hinge on whether that's true. Or rather, whether the police say it's true and it can't be proven otherwise.

  • Earth Skeptic||

    Better check the van for younger siblings.
