Most Frequently Asked Questions
What is WWHA?The World Walking Horse Association is the first sound international Walking Horse Association and Registry. Our main goal is to preserve the pedigrees of the Walking Horse, while maintaining the integrity of the breed, its versatility, and most importantly, its inherently natural, evenly timed, four-beat, walking gaits.
What is WWHA's stance on shoes? The World Walking Horse Association is a breed association, not a show organization. As such, we have limited ability to control what horses wear on their feet. We cannot realistically create regulations and enforce them when it comes to how a horse is shod, however, horses with heavily weighted shoes and bands will not be allowed in the classes of the sound HIO’s whose shows we approve for points. The World Walking Horse Association will continue to encourage and reward the natural walking horse and will always continue to support the sound horse movement.
What HIO's does WWHA recognize?FOSH (Friends of Sound Horses), NWHA (National Walking Horse Association), IWHA (International Walking Horse Association, WHOA (Walking Horse Owners Association).
How is WWHA different from HIO's?HIO stands for Horse Industry Organization and their focus is on the show end of the industry. They are charged with providing DQP services for horse shows. The World Walking Horse Association is a world wide breed association and registry. We are not a show organization, and fully support sound HIO’s and their goals and objectives.
