Maximilian Guenther will join Jose Maria Lopez at Dragon for the coming ABB FIA Formula E Championship season.

E-racing365 understands that the American team, which is owned and run by Jay Penske, is set to confirm Guenther’s seat in the next ten days.

The current Formula 2 driver has tested extensively for Dragon throughout 2018 having first run with the team at the rookie test in Morocco last January.

The 21-year-old showed well at the recent official Valencia test where he set the 14th quickest time just a tenth of a second off teammate Lopez.

The German is said to have impressed the team significantly while testing, particularly over the intensive summer period when the team was able to recover from initial reliability and endurance problems which compromized some of the early running with its Gen 2 cars.

Dragon is also set to formally announce its new title partner, Italian shoe brand GEOX.

Antonio Fuoco, who tested for Dragon at Valencia last month, is likely to become a test and reserve driver for the team with a view to a possible race drive in 2019-20.

Fuoco could also get further seat time at the Marrakesh rookie test in January.
