The Finns Party Youth leaves European Young Conservatives

The Finns Party Youth’s representative body has today decided that The Finns Party Youth will leave their European umbrella organization European Young Conservatives (EYC). The decision is not based on political differences with the EYC itself, but is due to the membership of the Turkish Justice and Development party’s (AKP Party) youth wing in the organization. The Finns Party Youth views that they cannot participate in any form of cooperation with the Turkish youth wing.

We joined European Young Conservatives in 2014. Already at that time we promised our members we would either get the AKP youth wing to leave the organization or leave ourselves. We hold on to this promise. We cannot be members in the same organization as the new Turkish sultan’s youth wing, when it acts against European values, declares Samuli Voutila, chairman for The Finns Party Youth.

The Finns Party Youth will start the resignation process immediately. The organization will also start mapping other possibilities for international cooperation. Good relations with European sister organizations who share the same Western values are very important to the Finns Party Youth.

At our organization we truly value our members’ opinions – not only at general meetings and board elections. It is time to deliver on the promise we made. Our active efforts in dismissing the AKP youth from EYC have been unsuccessful, and the only option is to leave ourselves. However, our international relations will not be lost. We will simply adopt new ways for cooperation, promises Juha Karjalainen, chairman for the Finns Party Youth’s representative body.
