Why I'm Running

The promise of America is worth fighting for.

Forty-one years ago, my mother came to this country as a domestic helper. After graduating from the number one university in the Philippines, she jumped at the opportunity to come here, because America is the land of opportunity. That is our country’s promise to anyone willing to work hard, and it’s a promise that I’ve been fortunate to live.

But that promise is under threat, and we need leaders willing to protect it.

We need leaders who understand our economic and national security is directly tied to our willingness to invest in smart and healthy kids, an economy that values workers as much as it values profits, and a foreign policy that reflects our American values – not the financial interests of a few.

Most importantly, we need leaders with the moral integrity and courage required at this moment as the very fabric of our country is being tested.

Our state and our country are worth fighting for. It's why I joined the military, it's why I served in Iraq, it's why I've dedicated my life to public service, and it's why I'm running to serve Texas' 23rd Congressional District.
