A new documentary traces the history of Detroit techno.
Directed by London-based filmmaker Jenn Nkiru, and produced by Frieze and Italian fashion house Gucci, the twenty-minute Black to Techno covers the legendary rise of the genre in the Michigan city.
The documentary highlights key moments in Detroit's history, including the heritage and impact of Motown Records, and the formation and subsequent demise of a black middle class in Detroit following the 1967 riots. Black to Techno also explores the city's relationship with Berlin after the wall demolition, shining a light on club Tresor and the record label.
