Yet again, Kelly goes with a “comfortable” hire rather than pursuing the best established coaches in the country. Notre Dame will perpetually be “one year away” until Kelly humbles himself enough to challenge the status quo. Tommy COULD be a great coordinator, but he isn’t RIGHT NOW. Kelly needs to develop the courage to pursue THE BEST.

Is it possible Notre Dame goes with the same structure as LSU with a Brady/Ensminger approach? If there isn't an experienced assistant brought in to work with Rees this seems like a huge risk with a lot of downside.

Well since now we are stuck with the rookie. Does anyone know if there will be an attempt to search or release of other coaches, maybe OL coach? Also has there been any discussion this early in the decision that the discussion of a new offense be introduced at least something that is more than a "wrinkle"?

This is another gut punch from BK. I shouldn’t be surprised after Quinn, and Bryan warned us he was going to do the same thing this time. Still a bummer though, knowing how close ND is if they just made the right hire.

Pathetic, 27 yr old no OC experience even at a high school level is going to call plays at Notre Dame. Next year will be dejavu all over again. Wisco loss as well as Clemson with this chit show and IB at QB. Smfh really down in the dumps over this one.

I really hope that Rees can make everyone look foolish for doubting him (and I do doubt him). It's just disheartening knowing that we are stuck with Kelly's buddies as coaches when there are so many better choices out there. Another 3-9 season is the only way we'll get a new O-line coach it seems like.

Bryan, any chance Kelly told the other candidates they would have to keep Rees as a Co-OC and QB coach and that cooled any interest they had (I’m assuming Kelly anticipated that)

Well, it is what it is. Hard to believe this was the best OC available, but we must wish him the best. Unproven, so all the thumbs up and thumbs down are speculative. No data. Past and current players seem ecstatic though.

So, I do not like this hire, I would've much preferred the Irish to bring in a Joe Moorhead or a Will Hall to be our OC. That being said, I am rooting for Tom to succeed 100%. If he can prove us all wrong, and get this offense to produce at a high level against the best opponents we face, I will be more than happy to eat crow.

Sometimes I guess I just don't understand it when they talk about going to the next level but yet you make decisions that im not quite sure that will get you there I do believe that he is very talented I just don't think that he is capable right now. To me this is not a place you cut your teeth. There are certain things in leadership that can't be taught or substituted for and that is life experiences. I don't care if you're talking about coaching or leading men and women in the military.

I don’t understand this move. This is Notre Dame. We can do better than Tom Rees. I have defended Kelly since he arrived but if there isn’t noticeable improvement in the offense (i.e. against good teams) he needs to go.

Sigh... That's about the full gambit of emotion here. Will pull for him but the mentality he exhibited as QB was play not to lose - I prefer someone who dares to gamble... I hope I am wrong but will have to wait and see...

Why go hire a proven OC when you can hire one with 0 experience. What could go wrong.

I like the hire. Kids love him and that goes a long way.

I’m excited to see what Tommy can do with the offense and I’ll trust Kelly’s judgment with this hire until proven otherwise.

Rees over Moorhead. Wow. Swarbrick asleep at the wheel when BK hires friends rather than best available. LSU, with one year of Brady, threw more TD passes than LSU had in the 4 prior seasons combined (and the same QB was there in 2018). BK failed to take notice.

Duck! Duck! The sky is falling. Geesh, it may not work out. Some hires don't. For now I'll defer to a guy who has one 250 + games, turned a program in disarray into a respected program and led the team to a national championship game and CFB playoffs.

Or wait. I changed my mind. The guys with the 80" tvs will shape my opinion.

I can't believe Swarbrick permitted this. Clemson must be looking forward to playing us next year. Unfortunately, Kelly has no desire for the program to go to the next level. Shame on you Jack!!!!
