SS Rajamouli launches “KiLiKi” website; calls it the world’s youngest and easiest language

On International Mother Language Day (February 21), acclaimed director SS Rajamouli has launched the official website of KiLiKi language. The new speech was invented for the terrifying warrior tribe called Kalakeya in the two-part Baahubali franchise. Terming it as the world’s youngest and easiest language, Rajamouli took to his social handle and wrote “It was with great research that @madhakarky created the #KiLiKi language for @BaahubaliMovie . You all can learn the world’s youngest & easiest language now. Here's the #KiLiKi language site on #InternationalMotherLanguageDay”

This fictional language was created by popular lyricist and screenwriter Madhan Karky. In an old interview with NDTV, the 39-year-old revealed that he coined the Kilikili language spoken by the Kalakeya tribe based on his experience of creating Cliq from scratch in Australia.

Opening up on the director’s idea, Madhan said “Rajamouli didn't want to categorize the Kalakeyas into any clan or ethnicity, but wanted to project them as barbaric brutes, who invoke endless fear. So we decided to make up our own language, giving more importance to mood-based clicks and articulations. My primary aim was to translate the emotion of the word with phonetic sounds. So I came up with a little over 750 words using this template and then went on to coin 40 grammar rules for using the same.”

Apparently, KiLiKiLi is the first full-fledged new language created exclusively for a film character in India. Popular parallels exist like the elaborate Elvish language created by JRR Tolkien for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. George RR Matrin also created several languages like Valyrian, Dothraki and Merinese for different tribes in The Song of Ice and Fire, which was later turned into the popular television series Game of Thrones.
