Codemasters have crafted the best F1 game that you can get on a console. With near perfect gameplay albeit hit and miss visuals, F1 2016 is a must for fans of the genre.

With plenty of content to keep you playing whether on your own or with others over Xbox Live, as well as the excellent career mode and online championship to get your teeth into, and the best handling and physics of the series, Codemasters has hit the nail on the head with F1 2016. Everything which was lacking last year is back in abundance, and the level of control – regardless of whether you’re using a wheel or a pad to play – is perfect.

Even if still lacking on the graphics side, F1 2016 marks a good step forward for the series thanks to the satisfying career mode, capable of making us feel like real drivers, while driving model, enemy AI and multiplayer support all stay at very good levels. Recommended for any Formula One lover.

Codemasters has gone the extra mile for F1 2016, addressing almost every last one of F1 2015's shortcomings, while delivering an in-depth and enjoyable Career Mode at its core. Factor in all of the other modes and touches, and F1 2016 is not only the most authentic Formula One game to date, it's also one of the best in some time.

Make no mistake, F1 2016 is pretty, but in some areas and not others.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. F1 2016 is the sixth game made by codemasters and you can do a career mode which lasts the maximum of ten seasons. You can work with your engineer to develop the car to be as fast as it needs to be to compete and challenge for the championship. Your agent will notify you of any inside information like contract offers from other teams and team expectations. She often gives you information about new rivals that you are expected to beat. You can also get promoted to first driver or demoted to second driver and if you don’t perform well you risk getting fired by the team which means you would have to go to another team or if you don’t think that it is right for you, you can retire from the sport. If you impress other teams with your performances you could get bigger teams sending you contract offers to be either first driver or second driver and you can develop your car to make it as fast as the other teams so you get noticed by bigger teams if you are in a mid-field team or a back marker team. It would increase your chances of winning the championship and would make bigger teams notice you and you may get sponsor bonuses from the team’s sponsors if you do really well in the races and at the end of the season you get to choose whether you want to stay at the team you are at or move to another team. Of course, the pinnacle of thisAfter some pretty mediocre titles since F1 2013, F1 2016 is the game that every gear head should be playing. Of course, the pinnacle of this game is its career mode, which is extremely in depth and rich. You get to pick any team you want to start off with, and create your character and helmet. It also lets you set difficulty and whatever assists you might need to be competitive. A entire race weekend can take roughly 2 hours (if you play on 50% distance like me), but I have to say that you never really notice how long it takes because it is so engaging. You get into heated rivalries with drivers and also control what upgrades you receive along with the ability to battle for the number one spot on the team and the season. All in all, its an extremely in depth game that only gets let down by the absence of the classic cars mode like in 2013. Expand

Just finished the first race weekend (Melbourne) and I'm absolutely loving this. I don't know a great deal about F1 racing, but the game doesJust finished the first race weekend (Melbourne) and I'm absolutely loving this. I don't know a great deal about F1 racing, but the game does a good job of explaining things.

The career begins with you choosing a team. The faster teams (like Mercedes & Red Bull) have higher expectations. You must win a championship within 2 seasons. The slower teams like Sauber and Renault are more relaxed and have a slower project over 4/5+ years.

I went with Renault because i wanted to work my way up. Theres a great tutorial section in the career featuring short 30 second videos that explain aspects of the game like DRS, safety car info etc. I went through each one and by the end of it, had a good understanding how everything works.

You get the standard practice and qualifying sessions before each race. In practice you do laps on different tyres, getting to know the track. You can skip this if you want. In qualifying, you do a lap, and your time will determine in what position you start in the race.

Going back to practice, you can complete tests and "assignments" from the team. For example, passing through gates at the appropiate speed and angle, finishing a lap below a certain time etc. For each target you hit (theres about 5 or 6 of them, none are mandatory), you get points to spend. These points can be used to upgrade your car. Usually I hate upgrade screens in games because theyre so cluttered and complicated! But in F1 2016 its simple and well-presented. Any upgrades will be applied to the car the next weekend so plan ahead. If you know Monaco is coming up, maybe a downforce upgrade is best to improve the cornering.

The race itself and gameplay mechanics are great. The AI is good from what ive experienced so far. If my front wing is near the rear right tyre of another car, and theres a right turn approaching, the car knows that by turning hes gonna come across my front, so the computer stays wide and gives you space to overtake. If however im a little further back, then the AI will be more aggresive and block the inside. I am super super impressed with this and its much better than Forza 6 where the computer does what it wants, and its up to you to figure out a way to overtake.

I'd recommend using a harder difficulty for any first time racers. I found the AI pretty easy in the first race. I quit the race and set it to "hard" and turned off the replays, therefore if I crash, im out and cant rewind. I like that realism.

Now I'm off to Weekend 2. There's a great deal that I've left out of this review, but i just wanted to give someone who has never played an F1 game, an idea of what to expect from this. I'll update the review to a lower score if more flaws present themselves in the future. But right now, I have very few complaints about this, an no major complaints at all so its a 9 from me.

I don't think theres another game that has captured the feel for a sport more than this.

It possibleWell, I have done one full race weekend and I think, this is the best F1 game ever. Game allows you to set up whatever you want. It possible to have a funny arcade or realistic simulator as well. AI is improved, no stupid collisions so often anymore. Safety car is back and I have seen it in the first race(!!!). But it is optional, like a formation lap, which I love. Career is back as well. There is much more freedom. It is possible to start in whatever team you like, no more "driving schools". Another new feature in improver Research and Development, which is connected with race preparation in practice sessions. Game is friendly, have F1 atmosphere and it is fun. Only one negative - graphics outside a car does not look so pretty like in other racing console series. But it is a detail for me. I recommend this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. F1 2016 is ONLY for the Xbox One , PS4 and the PC because the game engine which is Frostbite will not support the last gen consoles such as Xbox360 and PS3

    Not a Spoiler:
F1 2016 should make the multiplayer split screen also so that it is fun for the whole family and also reduce the intelligence of the AI otherwise its not fun when doing the races
