Nature notes
There are plenty of rabbits running about in the fields. In summer the females, or does, have litters of seven or eight young as opposed to only two or three in the winter months. They bear the young in an underground chamber that is lined with the mother’s fur. The young rabbits are blind at first but grow quickly and are out and about several days after being born. They start breeding before they are full size. The does can be distinguished from the bucks by their longer heads, something most easily noticed if they are side by side.
