Uber to Launch Grocery Delivery in the U.S. That You'll Love

Uber, originally known for its ride-sharing car service, continued to ramp up its game to popularize a food delivery service, Uber Eats. They have recently collaborated with their partner Cornershop to introduce Uber Grocery in both Canada and Latin America. Partnering with over 9,500 merchants to deliver groceries across 35 countries, this is a great way to bring customers closer to the things they need. And as it turns out, the American launch of Uber Grocery is not far behind.

How Does Uber Grocery Work?

When you place a grocery order through Uber, a Cornershop team member will fulfill your order and deliver it right to your door. Cornershop is Uber’s Latin American Grocery investment and a leading online grocery provider in Chile and Mexico. Its marketplace offers items from large chains such as Walmart, Costco, and Aldi along with regional specialty stores.

Just like other Uber experiences, you are able to track your delivery every step of the way and can request a “no-contact” experience. Delivery fees vary by country and merchant and are set up by Cornershop. However, the delivery cost “decreases as the size of the cart increases.”

Why Grocery Delivery is Beneficial during the Pandemic

Over the last six months, the pandemic has worried most of the demographic into staying at home, even when having to purchase necessities like groceries. Uber saw that problem and tried to find a solution.

After much testing, they were able to launch Uber Grocery in certain locations. There has been a constant high demand for home deliveries from grocery and convenience stores on Uber, with orders increasing by 197% since March. The Uber team expects to see this trend continue as people across the world look for new ways to save time and remain safe. 

Which States Are Providing Grocery Delivery?

Uber is planning on making grocery delivery available in Miami, Florida, and Dallas, Texas “later this month”. In those two cities, Eat Pass and Uber pass will receive an additional benefit; free grocery delivery on orders over $30. Uber stated that in the future they plan to “roll out new grocery delivery features for customers and merchants alike in the U.S and other cities around the world over the coming months”. There is no doubt they will continue to grow their business plan across America.
