NDC Finland bids farewell to Ghana Ambassador to Denmark

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Finland have paid a visit to the Ghana Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark to bid a final farewell to H.E. Mrs. Edith Hazel, Ghana’s ambassador to the Nordic countries. The members, who are also executives of NDC Finland, congratulated Hazel for her good service to Ghana and to Ghanaians in various Nordic countries.

The executives presented a personal painted portrait of Hazel to her as a sign of appreciation for her good work and the commitment she has shown to the NDC Finland group. According to the Vice Chairman of NDC Finland, William Amankona, the ambassador has been open to the Ghanaian community in Finland and she has displayed a good leadership skill by connecting with the people, visiting some of them in their homes whenever she visits Finland. Amankona says Hazel’s openness to meet and deliberate about the future of NDC with the young and energetic NDC members in Finland on different occasions is something they will forever remember about her.

The staff at the Ghana Mission in Copenhagen organized a farewell ceremony for the outgoing ambassador. Speaking on the achievements of the ambassador within her short period of 2 years, the minister at the Ghana Mission in Denmark, Yakubu Alhassan said Hazel is the only ambassador who was able to tour all the 5 countries in the Nordic region and has tried to meet almost all Ghanaian communities in the region during her tenure as ambassador.

Alhassan expressed his appreciation on behalf of the staff for the leadership skills exhibited by Hazel and for fighting for the welfare of the staff, which encouraged them to be more hardworking and resulted in the promoting of three (3) of the staff. According to Alhassan, Hazel was able to implement technologies to easily reach out to people who apply for documents from the embassy, which has reduced telephone bills of the embassy by 70 percent (%). Other achievements mentioned included the purchase of a brand new Mercedes-Benz for the embassy and renovation of the embassy building.

NDC Finland visit Ghana Embassy in Denmark

Throwing more light on the farewell ceremony, Amankona said that they (NDC Finland) got the chance to talk to the ambassador and staff of the embassy to discuss some of the grievances of the Ghanaian community in Finland.

Amankona further said that NDC Finland is ready and willing to work with the incoming ambassador to Denmark. In his opinion, the Nordic countries is well known for their IT skills and therefore wishes that the embassy could work towards implementing a full online based application process. He also encouraged the incoming ambassador to continue the good work of Hazel by connecting with Ghanaians in the Nordic countries. He suggested that the embassy should participate in tourism fairs around the Nordic region to increase the number of investors to Ghana.

H.E Hazel assumed office as an ambassador to Denmark in July 2014, before that she served as Deputy Head of Ghana’s Mission in Washington D.C, USA and also as a Member of Parliament in 2001 for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the Western Region of Ghana.
