Contact information

The Finnish police forces comprise 11 police departments. Use the map service to locate the nearest police service point.

When you need urgent police assistance, call the emergency number 112.

The nationwide Police Customer Service

The national police helpline provides general advice on non-urgent matters regarding passports, identity cards, licensing matters, appointment bookings and electronic services. Advice is also provided on matters related to automatic traffic surveillance as well as traffic, crime reports and lost property.

The national police helpline is available at +358 295 419 800 (local network charge / mobile phone charge) weekdays from 8.00 am to 4.15 pm.

The service is available in Finnish and Swedish. When you need urgent assistance, call the emergency number 112.

A call to the helpline number costs:

  • the local network charge when calling from a fixed network
  • the mobile phone charge when calling from a mobile phone
  • international call charges when calling from abroad.

Fees are determined by the price list of the operator used by the caller (the service itself is free of charge). The operator begins charging when the call connects – you will also pay the operator for queuing time.

The helpline call queue has limited spots. If the spots are full, the call disconnects due to a technical reason. If this occurs, we ask to call again at a later time.

Analysis function of the police

The National Police Board operates an analysis function of the police whose main task is to produce timely and reliable information as a basis for police decision-making.

The analysis function also provides statistics to third parties, such as the media. Information already available in the police systems can be delivered to the customer quickly if the work situation permits. If the information needs to be compiled from various sources, the service is subject to a charge in accordance with the decree on police charges. The analysis function may also refuse to respond to a statistics request if compiling the information requires an unreasonable amount of work or if the information is not available.

The statistics request should be defined as precisely as possible in advance. The statistics request should indicate the phenomenon/topic on which statistics are desired, the time period and the area (national or a more detailed regional breakdown) that is the target of the request. The request should also include information on what (old statistics) the requested statistics will be compared to. Comparability increases if the search parameters remain the same in the statistics update.

Statistics requests for the analysis function should be submitted to the registry office of the National Police Board at kirjaamo.poliisihallitus@poliisi.fi

Enquiries for regional statistics can also be made through the registry offices of police units.

Call charges on 0295 numbers

Calls to 0295 numbers from landlines in Finland are charged at the standard local network rate in accordance with the customer’s telephone subscription. Calls from mobile telephones in Finland are charged at the standard mobile rate in accordance with the customer’s mobile contract. According to the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority’s definition, 0295 numbers are national and transferable operator-independent numbers, which do not include any service or other charges.

When calling service numbers from abroad, insert the country code +358 in front of the number and leave out the first zero. For example, when calling number 0295 123 456, dial the number as +358 295 123 456.
