‘American Sniper’ Writer To Make Directorial Debut With Former Steven Spielberg Gig ‘Thank You For Your Service’

'American Sniper' Writer To Make Directorial Debut With Former Steven Spielberg Gig 'Thank You For Your Service'

Steven Spielberg has been toying with the military drama “Thank You For Your Service” for a while now. Two years ago it was speculated he could reteam with his “Lincoln” star Daniel Day-Lewis on the project, and back in February, it was reported that it would be his next picture, with production taking place later in 2015. But Spielberg is passing on the director’s chair to someone else.

American Sniper” writer Jason Hall, who was already working on the script for ‘Thank You,’ is now stepping up to making his directorial debut, with Spielberg sticking around to produce. Based on the book by David Finkel, the film will follow three U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq as they struggle with the effects of PTSD while navigating back into civilian life.

No word yet if production is still gearing up to start this year, but you can bet DreamWorks is hoping to replicate the success of WB’s “American Sniper”. [Showbiz 411/The Wrap]
