I’ve officially been roasting coffee for a year now. I’ve even managed to develop a few relationships with companies interested in “custom roasts” … Now I just need to find a rental roaster for large batches.

For those who don’t know what field day is, this is the weekend set aside by the ARRL for HAMs to get out of their shacks and set up antennas and radios in the field to see how many contacts they can make in a weekend. (24 hours from Saturday to Sunday)
This year, I’m starting a bit late.. Evidently having a child has a way of doing that. Hopefully in a couple of years though, he will join me. 🙂

Should be able to boot from your new USB drive either by changing the default Startup Disk in System Preferences or by holding down the Option key at boot and selecting the drive. Once booted, you’ll be able to install or upgrade Mavericks as you normally would.
Neat little trick…
When I first started using Simplenote I was unsure why they were giving away such a great service. We all need notes and it’s nice to be able to have access to those notes everywhere… But, these days with strange marketing and sales techniques, it is hard to trust companies with your data. We often think to ourselves (or should!) what will this company do with my information? What will they do with my data? .. So I stopped using Simplenote with that in mind. I recently poked around and found that the same company makes Simperium which is a underlying data layer. They charge for that service to the developers using the API. This means that they don’t NEED to charge for this great app because they monitize the underlying service. Really great news!
So, back to simplenote I go.
I still use Evernote for its organization of information, but this is a great tool for getting random synchronized thoughts onto your devices and out of your head.
I really like ways to store bits of information for later. I’ve been using Evernote to store my random thoughts, receipts etc for a while now and even got the Moleskine Evernote notebook.
I’m always on the lookout for better ways to do this but at the moment, this seems to work
You might or might not have noticed, but it’s come to light that the NSA might be looking over your shoulder so to speak. Seeing as how they have nearly infinite resources and desire, it appears that they have been reading your data. Whether you like it or not, it’s what we have let them do post 9/11.
So, for those who don’t want their data snooped, the best thing to do is to encrypt everything. (As long as you don’t use the NSA’s algorithms to do the encryption!)
To this end, I’ve configured my site to force people to https. Please do let me know if this breaks something.
Really nice idea, iPhone app ($4.99) plus ifttt and growl and I get push notifications for nearly everything. I’ll likely see about using it for Nagios alerts at work.
