In case you’ve been sleeping on the news that Scott Moir (one half of the most decorated ice dancing duo in history, known as Tessa & Scott) is getting married, here it is: Scott Moir is engaged to his first-ever ice dance partner, Jackie Mascarin. Since everybody loves a wedding (and everybody loves Scott Moir), he and Tessa Virtue’s Rock the Rink tour co-stars were more than happy to share how pumped they are for the Canadian Walk of Famer.

“He was so low-key; he told me earlier today,” Elvis Stojko told etalk. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, I just got engaged.’ I’m like, ‘Wait, wait, wait, what? You just got engaged?’ He’s so laid-back about it.”

Stojko shouldn’t feel left out, though. Apparently Scott didn’t tell any of the Rock the Rink crew.

“I was really happy for Scott; I actually just found out today,” Jeremy Abbott confirmed. “He was so casual about it. We were sitting upstairs just talking and he was just like, ‘Yeah, so I got engaged to my girlfriend last week, blah, blah, blah…’ Just so casual about it.”

So does that mean he won’t be taking a page out of the Elvis Stojko Book of Matrimony for the wedding?

“With my wife, I just popped the question and in three days we got married,” Stojko shared of his nuptials with Mexican figure skater Gladys Orozco. “I was engaged for three days and then we eloped to Vegas and got married and it was awesome.”

We’re not sure Scott would go for that, and even if he did, he definitely wouldn’t broadcast it. His own parents might find out weeks later. While Scott’s obviously a private person, he did share with etalk this week that he’s got a lot to celebrate.

‘I’m very, very pleased’

“To be honest, since the Olympic Games, it’s been a series of events where you have to just keep pinching yourself,” he said. “I’m very, very pleased with my personal life and I’m very pleased in my professional life. To be able to go across the country again this fall—Tessa and I performing, doing what we love—it doesn’t even feel like real life.”

And it doesn’t seem like the Rock the Rink show is real life either. Not only is the cast—consisting of Virtue, Moir, Stojko, Abbott, Kaetlyn Osmond, Patrick Chan, Carolina Kostner and duo Tatiana Volsozhar and Maxim Trankov—totally spectacular, the 30-date tour features Toronto band Birds of Bellwoods playing live, backflips and other tricks you just don’t see at your average figure skating performance. In the words of Scott Moir: “It’s all about showbiz!”

Tessa also gave us an update on her budding friendship—sorry, we mean, deep, deep bond—with Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano. Tessa is a huge fan of the show (which recently announced the fourth season is finally on its way!) and Melanie is equally charmed by Tessa, gushing about her at the People’s Choice Awards and Comic-Con this year.

“We haven’t met, but I think we’re besties,” Tessa said. “We’re fans of each other… We want to protect each other’s privacy, but certainly there’s a deep rooted friendship there.”

Hollywood or bust

The Rock the Rink tour kicks off October 5 in Abbotsford, B.C., but there’s no rest for the best Canadian duo since cheese curds and gravy. Tessa and Scott are already working on what comes next.

“I came across a note the other day—we had a list of guests we wanted to have on a podcast,” Tessa said. “Or we always thought maybe a late night talk show where we could have cocktails and—”

“I’d be bartending,” Scott interjected. “It would be fun though. Would we have to come up with stand-up every night? That might be over our heads.”

Oh, we think you two would do just fine. Consider this your audition tape. Universe, make this happen!
