Roger Craig Smith Reflects on ‘Sonic,’ ‘Batman,’ ‘Captain America’ and More on the VFK Podcast
Although we’re not sure why this would come to mind, if you’re looking for a common bond between Sonic the Hedgehog, Captain America, Batman, Etzio and Chris Redfield, we’ve got the answer and his name is Roger Craig Smith.
Born August 11, 1976 in St. Joseph, Michigan, Roger is a former stand-up comic who, since 2006, has managed to work as a voice actor, bringing characters to life on film, television and in video games. Along the way he spent a decade voicing the character of Sonic the Hedgehog in a variety of projects, became the voice of Captain America in animated TV shows and films, and brought the Dark Knight to life on numerous occasions, including the game Arkham: Origins and the animated feature Superman: Red Son. But even bigger than those has been his work on the Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed game series.
Roger joins us on the VFK podcast for the first of a two-part interview, providing a look back at how he got involved with voice acting in the first place, the way the Covid pandemic has impacted the industry, how it’s pivoted to adapt and he reflects on his 10 years as Sonic, explaining his reasons for giving it up that seem to have little in common with fan theories.
