The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – in close coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), and Liwaa Imam ‘Ali (Iraqi paramilitary) – liberated the important hilltop of Tal Mattar near the Palmyra Castle (Qal’at Tadmur) last night.
According to a field correspondent in east Homs, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies carried out a late night assault on the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) defensive positions near the Palmyra Castle; this attack proved successful as they were able to infiltrate the aforementioned terrorist group’s front-lines and seize Tal Mattar after an intense battle.
With the capture of Tal Mattar last night, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies are technically in fire control of the Palmyra Castle, as ISIS is currently at the mercy of the government forces’ barrage of thermobaric missiles.
Should the Syrian Armed Forces choose to storm the Palmyra Castle, they will once again be at the doorsteps of the ancient city that has been under ISIS’ control since May 21st, 2015.
Assisting the Syrian Armed Forces from above is the Russian Air Force, who continues to harass the ISIS terrorists around the Palmyra countryside with non-stop raids that disrupt the terrorist group’s resupply routes.
