    Anuna De Wever

Anuna De Wever is a 19-year-old Belgian climate activist from Mortsel. In January 2019, together with fellow student Kyra Gantois, she called on schoolchildren via social media to demonstrate for the climate in Brussels. Since then, several editions of School Strike for Climate have taken place.

Since the start of her call for climate action, De Wever has contributed to a climate plan for Belgium in collaboration with more than over 100 scientists. In regard to the organization and mobilization of the climate demonstrations, De Wever also counts on the logistical support of trade unions, political youth associations and various NGOs and non-profit organizations. In May 2019, De Wever and Gantois won the 69th Ark Prize of the Free Word for their actions.

As well as receiving broad support for her actions, De Wever has also received repeated criticisms, and even death threats. Take this opportunity to listen to what it’s like to be on the frontline of climate activism, from someone who is unafraid to stand up for her principles.
