The 384th urs of Hazrat Hashimpeer of Vijayapura will be held on Sunday.
The dargah (shrine), known for promoting communal harmony for nearly four centuries, is the shrine of Muslim saint Hazrat Hashimpeer, who was born in 1576 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. However, he settled in the then Bijapur city at the age of 73.
The darga’s numerous devotees pay a special visit every year during the annual celebration.
According to the historians, after the demise of the saint, Mohammad Adil Shah, of the Adil Shahi dynasty, who was one of the prominent disciples of the saint, built the shrine in 1649.
The shrine which attracts people of all faiths has become a centre for peace and religions harmony, said Sayed Shah Murtuza Husaini Hashmi, the chief of the shrine and a descendant of the saint.
Though most devotees are from north Karnataka, a significant number also comes from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and also from Singapore and some Gulf countries.
Mr. Hashmi said that a Hindu family had been exclusively doing painting and hoisting the sacred flag atop the dome of the shire.
