Work to begin on Dorfor road

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Charles Hodogbey, has re-assured chiefs and residents of Dorfor-Ayimagonu in the Volta Region that funding has been sourced from the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) to construct the Dorfor-Ayimagonu road, which links to Mafi-Adidome.

Mr. Hodogbey assured his people that road works on the abandoned road will commence by January 2012.

Today’s findings in the area revealed that the road has been in a deplorable state for years now and has not seen any rehabilitation despite numerous promises by successive governments.

He said this at the 15th annual Dorfor-Ayimagonu festival, which brought citizens, MPs, chiefs and opinion leaders.

According to him, the Dorfor-Ayimagonu festival seeks to unite the community and promote development.

He also gave the assurance that government will continue constructing classroom blocks in all the communities within the constituency to help eliminate all schools under trees.

This situation, he however stressed, affects academic performance and hoped that teaching and learning would be improved after it was addressed.

“Government will provide development projects in all districts of the country such as good roads, schools, and hospitals, and the contract for the Dorfor road has already been awarded for construction work to begin soon in January,” he affirmed.

He entreated the citizens in and outside the Dorfor community to assist in the development of the area.

Hon. Hodogbey explained that government alone could not develop the area, adding that it behooved the well-to-do citizens of the area to support the development agenda of the town.

On education, the MOP urged parents to invest in their children’s education instead of spending lavishly on funerals and other social gatherings.

“Education is an important tool to unlocking the potential of the children in the area,” he said.

Hon. Hodogbey later announced that plans were far-advanced to help improve the road infrastructure in the area, and of importance were the Mafi-Adidome, Dorfor Adidome and Juapong roads.

He reiterated that government under the Rural Electrification Project will ensure that all communities in the district are put on the national grid.

He also said a water plant will be constructed to serve all surrounding communities in the constituency to bring relief to the people.

The MP advised the people to remain united, stressing that, “it is only through unity that you can achieve total development.”

As the 2012 election draws near, he cautioned the people to refrain from any electoral violence and also asked them to give another mandate to the NDC government.

He pledged to work assiduously to redeem the confidence reposed in the party to continue the Better Ghana agenda it promised.

President of Dorfor Traditional Area, Togbe Ananse Titriku, also appealed to government to revamp the Juapong Textiles Industry to create jobs and bring economic empowerment to the youth of Juapong.

He explained that “This year’s festival was aimed at raising funds to embark on developmental projects in Dorfor-Ayimagonu.”
