In no particular order, Jay Greenberg loved his family, loved hockey, loved a great meal (some of which usually ended up on his shirt) loved writing, loved the hard to love Pittsburgh Pirates, did I say love to eat? So many laughs, so much food. So many are going to miss him.

“RT @MikeVacc: Sad, sad news. My friend and former Post colleague Jay Greenberg has passed away at age 71. Jay was one of the great gentlemen of the press box and never, ever lost his love of the job, or of sports, and he adored his family. Godspeed, Jay.”

Jay Greenberg was by far my favorite journalist. He was a lifeline to the Flyers for this out-of-town fan every week when The Hockey News came out. He was the best in the business. Rest in peace, and thanks for everything. 🙏

The outpouring of love that Jay Greenberg has received on Twitter over the last 12 hours or so has been amazing to see. Rarely do you see someone who touched so many lives. Football, baseball, hockey, it’s really cool to see. May he rest In peace.

I want to offer my condolences to everyone who knew HOF hockey writer Jay Greenberg. We’ve unlocked the four Flyers stories he wrote for The Athletic, which were a joy to edit. RIP.

Jay Greenberg was one of the best sports writers that Philadelphia has ever seen — and an even better person. The Flyers press box will be emptier without him and he will be dearly missed by all of us who were lucky enough to have worked with him.
