Genesis GV60 Expert Review

Kelly Lin

A small electric crossover will soon join the Genesis lineup. Dubbed the GV60, the newest Genesis model sits on a dedicated EV platform shared with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Deliveries are slated to begin in 2022 for what will likely be a 2023 model-year vehicle.

Not everyone will like the 2023 GV60's styling, but we are partial to many of the design elements. The clamshell hood combines the hood and fenders into a single unit for a cohesive look. The quad-lamp headlight and taillight design is a nice nod to the rest of the Genesis lineup. Another luxurious touch: The door handles automatically pop up when you approach the vehicle.

The electric SUV's exterior design may be controversial, but there's little arguing that the interior oozes luxury. Premium materials cover the cabin, complemented by attractive contrast stitching and seat piping. The center touchscreen merges with the digital instrument cluster in one large display that stretches across the dashboard.

One of the more interesting parts of the interior is the "Crystal Sphere" on the center console. When the vehicle is off, the sphere provides ambient lighting. Turn the GV60 on, and the sphere rotates and becomes a gear selector for switching between Drive, Reverse, and Neutral.

Genesis hasn't provided powertrain details, but we anticipate the GV60 will be available in both single-motor and dual-motor variants, just like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It's quite possible it will offer two battery sizes: a 58-kWh unit and a larger 77-kWh unit.

Genesis hasn't yet shared how much the 2023 GV60 will cost, but we anticipate a base price of about $50,000. That would make it a premium option above the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq. If the GV60 does start around $50,000, that would put it well above the small GV70 and about even with the larger GV80 in price.

Genesis isn't saying yet, but we anticipate the automaker will target a range of up to 300 miles. As we've seen with other electric SUVs, the driving range will likely depend on options, trim, and battery size.
