Fuller House Recast: Hal Sparks to Play D.J.'s Ex-Boyfriend Nelson in Season 2

Fuller House Nelson Recast

When D.J. reunites with her ex-boyfriend in Fuller House‘s upcoming second season, sparks will fly. Hal Sparks, that is.

Sparks, best known for starring in Showtime’s Queer as Folk, will fill the role of walking bank account Nelson Burkhard, TVLine has learned. He’ll bump into D.J. at their high school reunion, where she’ll discover that he hasn’t changed one bit — well, except for his face.

Jason Marsden originally portrayed Nelson on Full House, but as TVLine previously reported, the character was recast for Fuller House, along with the role of D.J.’s high school frenemy Kathy Santoni. In a series of videos posted to Twitter, Marsden explained that it was his decision not to revisit the role.

“The folks at Netflix, the producers, the casting directors and the writers of Fuller House all tried … to get me on the show,” he told his followers. “The decision was ultimately mine and mine alone.”

Sparks’ post-Folk TV credits include roles on Frasier, CSI and Las Vegas. He currently recurs on Disney XD’s Lab Rats: Elite Force.
