With the Walt Disney Company shifting its focus away from linear television to streaming, earlier this year CEO Bob Chapek announced over 100 TV channels would be closing this year, and now more details have been reported.

Disney has confirmed to Broadband TV News that Fox and Disney Junior will be closing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on September 30th 2021.

Movies and series from these channels will then be moving to Disney+ in these countries, with some Disney Junior shows also being broadcast on the German free-TV Disney Channel as this “will remain an important channel in our distribution strategy”, according to the Disney spokesperson.

National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild channels will continue to be offered in German-speaking countries.

Last week in the United Kingdom, Disney closed the Fox channel and last year, all three Disney Channels closed.  Many other countries have seen Disney Channels closed, including Australia and New Zealand.  With 18 more channels closing in South East Asia later this year.

Disney+ has already launched in Germany, Austria and Switzerland last year.

This continues Disney’s push towards making Disney+ the main outlet for films and television shows around the world.
