Mike Flanagan In Talks To Direct John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ Sequel

Mike Flanagan In Talks To Direct John Carpenter's 'Halloween' Sequel

Halloween

In 1978 horror fans were introduced to the murderer Michael Myers with the slasher, thriller “Halloween” directed and co-written by John Carpenter

Ten films later the helmer is returning to produce a new movie with Mike Flanagan in talks to direct, according to Bloody Disgusting. Blumhouse announced that Carpenter will be creative consultant on the project and is planning to score the film. Flanagan is known for his work on the horror films “Hush,” “Oculus” and “Ouija 2.” News of his involvement has yet to be confirmed but if it’s true, it seems to be a good fit, with Carpenter overseeing production.

“‘Halloween’ needs to return to its traditions. I feel like the movies have gotten away from that… Michael is not just a human being; he’s a force of nature, like the wind. That’s what makes him so scary,” Carpenter said. “We made the original ‘Halloween’ for very little money. At heart it’s just a good, scary story, and that’s why it works. 38 years later, I’m going to help to try to make the tenth sequel the scariest of them all.”

Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, the first film in the franchise grossed $47 million on a budget of $325,000, making it one of those most profitable indie movies of all-time. Carpenter also cowrote “Halloween II” which was released in 1981.

Blumhouse Productions will co-finance the film along with Miramax. “We’re still in the early stages of pre-production right now, but you can be sure that script, cast and crew announcements will be forthcoming, and you’ll be able to get all the news right here. Let’s do this!,” said the Blumhouse announcement.

“Halloween” is expected to be released in 2017.
