Brief history

Diplomatic relations between Romania and the United Arab Emirates were established on 1 august 1989.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
The Embassy of Romania in Abu Dhabi was inaugurated  in June 1990 and in March 1991 was accredited the first  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania residing in Abu Dhabi.
So far, the Romanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi was led by:
1991-1994 - Nicolae Irimia
1995-1999 - Dumitru Chican
2000-2006 - Ioan Emil Vasiliu
2007-2012 - Niculae Goia

On 11 November 2012 H. E. Mr. Adrian Măcelaru prezented his credential letters as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the United Arab Emirates.

In January 1992 Consulate General of Romania was established in Dubai. Consulate General of Romania in Abu Dhabi is managed by Mr. Mihai Bujor Sion, acting head of the Consulate.

In Dubai, operates a Romanian commercial office in 1974, transformed later in the Promotion and Economic Cooperation Bureau, led by Mr. Ovidiu Costea, economic counsellor.

UAE opened their Embassy in Bucharest in December 2004. It is the only UAE Embassy in Eastern Europe. UAE Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Yacub Yousif Al-Hosani, presented his credentials at the Presidential Palace on 12 March 2009.
