The chart-topping group are expected to release a new album early next year..

Cornershop are preparing to go into the studio to record their new album, with a view to releasing it early next year through WIIIJA.

The band are busy rehearsing for the record, and so far have completed four as-yet-untitled tracks. It’s likely that they’ll release a single in autumn, their first since 1998’s ‘Sleep On The Left Side’.

Speaking to nme.com last week, Wiiija boss Gary Walker said: “It’s coming together really well. I’ve sat in on a rehearsal and they are really great songs. I’m really excited about it.”

Cornershop will self-produce the new material with help from cult DJ Rob Swift, previously of US act X-Men/X-Ecutioners.

It is likely that Cornershop will return to the stage in autumn around the time of the new single’s release.

Walker said: “With the live shows, they’re going to move on. They want to come back stronger than before.”

As well as working on new material, Cornershop have been making music with new London band The Toes. Tjinder Singh produced the band’s debut EP ‘Lung Oyster Blues’, which was released on Cornershop‘s label Meccico this week.
